And in other new..key locked in car

After a 12 hour day at the office, my SO flying to Namibia for the rest of the week and the prospect of loadshedding I still managed to lock the 7ers key in the boot.

House key in car > no one at home to get spare > #epicfail.

Luckily Budget's roadside assistance and Central Locksmiths came through. 30 minutes after the locksmith arrived I was on my way home. He first picked the door lock, which deadlocked the car when opened, but luckily picking the trunk lock did the trick.

First thing tomorrow I am ordering a plastic valet key to keep at the office.

Oh no :hammerhead:

Glad you got it sorted at least.

I am always so scared of locking my key in the boot like that, that I've made it a habit to ensure my driver's door is unlocked before I open or close my boot.

I usually do the same but today my mind was just not present. At least there's zero damage to the car :)

Yeah my biggest fear... I tend to unlock the car and then only open the boot :roflol:

Lucky that your car wasn't damaged.

I dropped my car off at the panel beaters one time with my house keys inside. That night had to pay a locksmith R650 to open my place, even had to walk 5km to the closest friggen ATM. Tried a nearby lodge first but they were R800 a night and would have had to go to work in the same clothes next day.

This happened to me a few years ago, I was stranded in Kathu of all places. Had to wait for a locksmith to drive 200km from Upington to come open the car for me. since then I am anal about NOT keeping key's in my hand, but rather in a secure pocket, so you not tempted to put it down, when picking something up.

That second wher you slam the panel, or in your case, used the self close, and went.... oh fark....

I Know right! As i heard the motor pull the lock down I though "oh no I dis not just..." And then I saw the doors were still locked. #fail. Ordering a valet key from BMW this morning.

Sorry mate... LOL

I always open the boot from my pocket. I never remove the key. Like the old cars where you would push the pin down, hold the door handle up as you close to lock. I eventually got into the habit of always locking the driver door with the key.

When the hazzards flash as soon as the boot slams, you know there is trouble.

Happened to a certain person with an e39 M5 at the border post of Lesotho :fencelook:

The rest of our group did the honorable supporting thing, and left him there..... topgear style:crazylaugh:

It's happened to me 3 times.

Once when we were out for dinner, luckily when we arrived. Called road side assistance and they sent a locksmith so by the time dinner was over was back in the car.

Once when changing my taillights. Put the keys in the boot while working. All done wanted to see the result. Slammed the boot shut. And realised my keys were still in there.

And the worst one my friend did when we went up to the orange river in the x5. Arrived at camp around 2, drinking till the afternoon he managed to somehow lock the keys in the car. Thank goodness one of the workers there said he could try get in. He was by the window with a wire down the side of the window for 2 to 3 hours. He eventually popped the lock. Note all of our stuff was inside the car for the river trip and sleeping that night.

I did that once in my sisters touring...

Was not a fun experience, the lock smith eventually used an airbag and a wire to get the keys out

Glad you were sorted out quickly
