AMG Maintenance

HI Guys

Does anyone know +- what it costs to maintain a C55 or CLK 55? Is it more than a ///M car?

I've been searching for an e46 M3 manual for a few months now and there are not many good ones around or they over priced.

My next option would be Z4M or AMG even though I hate auto :arch:

My ballies CLK63 cost R42k for brakes, luckily under plan though:rollsmile:

I would think any modern performance car out of plan would be madness to maintain these days:thumbdo:

They arent a ball ache to maintain at all hey.. if its out of plan (which most c55/clk 55's are by now) then your best bet is diesel electric. They can bring in almost anything for these cars if you can provide a part number.

Same quality, but without the dealer's inflated prices.

Get a decent independent mechanic who has access to a star machine and then just keep a hand on it, as you would do with any other performance orientated car.

My first service when I got the car cost about 6k.. but that was everything except breaks.

Other maintenance that i've done was change an alternator, tensioner pulley and belt and a set of tires.

There is a lot of support in terms of info on the web, mbworld.org is a good place to start.

Im not gonna lie an older clk55 drove past me yesterday on witkoppen. Black one with RGM motorsport badge.

Clearly the guy had done exhaust cause It was the sickest sounding V8 engine tone. Ive heard in a LONG time. It was burbling beautifully!!

Pity they so slow up here at altitude cause I would definately buy one for a weekender.

One thing I forgot to add yesterday:

The C55's 5 speed gearbox is tragically slow.

I have watched paint dry faster than this thing changes gears.

I initially thought that it may be a problem with my gearbox, but after having the car checked at Mercedes (box checked out 100%), having the latest software installed, reseting the adaptations and talking to other owners and Merc workshop mechanics, it just turns out that this is how they were made.

I can't say anything about the last of the 55's that came with the 7speed 'box as I have never driven one.

Its my only real issue with an otherwise very competent car.

Your search is/was for a e46 M3 manual, and I think that the ///M will give you so much more in terms of driver satisfaction.

My personal feeling is that a sports car should be manual. Ive heard that the E46 SMG gives a lot of issues so I've decided to stay away.

I really like the 55's and they only come in auto so i was going to make an exception.

I think i should go test drive in a 55 and take it from there.

I used to think that way, until I first tested MDCT
