ALIGNMENT FOR E90

Just to let guys the guys know about how different tyre shops alignment machines can vary in readings.

I fitted a set of tyres to my E90 last week, i had them fitted at Mintys in Umgeni road. They were very well priced and was happy with the deal i got. I decided to get the alignment done while i was there, once the car was on the ramp i was told that the front left camber is off and was showed this on the computer screen and the only way to sort it out was to drill out the locking pins on the front shock mounts so that the camber could be adjusted. I was not to happy with this and decide to try another tyre shop.

Off i went to Bandag Tyres, once the car was on their ramp the reading i got showed that the cars camber settings were all within factory specs and just a minor adjutment to the toe setting was needed. This tyre shop also added weight (sand bags) into the car to get a more accurate reading and all was sorted.

Anybody ever got different readings when it came to alignment from different tyre shops and is it advisable to drill out the pins from the front shock mounts in order to try and get camber settings done.

Pict of the rear is Mintys & picture of the front is from Bandag who did the job

Alternatively, you can book your car in at Supertech...they charge R600 for the alignment with camber adjustment ...and the job is guaranteed:thumbs:

Did mine recently...zero issues.
I did go to Tires & More first...but they turned the job away due to the cambers being off and they recommended taking the car to BMW.

I can't and will stop praising KZN Wheel Alignment.

Ashwin and Kivash are really the best out there :bravo:

Royal Vulcanizing is my go to.

Used Tyres and More in Mt Edgecombe once and they were good as well.

I had similar results with my car as well - albeit with a shop in Kensington.

Left camber was also waaaay out according to their machine.

Mind you, they also quoted me an astronomical price to replace all the mountings on my cars exhaust as well.

Went to Koenic in Edenvale and had everything done for a fraction of the price and the alignment was almost spot on with their guy.

Usually, the pin needs to be knocked out in terms of have better camber at front. It will improve your tyre life on E90.
The setting on E90 in the computer usually have normal spring and shock, m-sports spring and shock. Hence, the profile must be correct first.
The m-sport is lower, the camber is more negative for handling improvement. But it's bad for extra inner wear.

Thanks for all the advise guys i appreciate the help.

Subloaded i have used Royal valcanising for my 20inch bakkie wheels they also gave good service.

Atleast now i have 3 top places to look at, Royal Valcanising, Supertech and KZN Wheel Alignment.

Thanks again

There is a great chance that they selected the incorrect car on the alignment machine to begin with.
This has become a common issue whenever my car goes in for alignment especially when a different person actually does it.
The E90 M Sport suspension is rather different compared to the Exclusive Models. These smart ass alignment technicians think its all the same.

Ive had this happen to me numerous times as well. Who would you guys recommend in the Johannesburg area, jhb south to be specific.

Hi All

Don't want to create another thread for this. But Wanted to know where I could go to for proper Wheel Alignment in CPT? I have had issues whereby they do it according to the computer but still doesnt drive correct.

I have E09 325i LCI, MSport springs with Standard Shocks. I recently changed 2 of my front tyres and it was fine before I did this and the place did my wheel alignment.

Hopefully in Northern Suburbs

TIA

Thanx for This. I did contact them. Just checking is R800 correct for wheel alignment from them?

Sounds about right. Besides their labour prices they also load the car with weight in order to get the alignment right. Buddy of mine was in the same predicament as you, went everywhere and a they were the only ones that could dial it correctly.

OK great, will use them. The only place that did mine right can't do it anymore. They got a new system with goes around the Tyre and because I have msport springs in they can't do it. Going to scrape the vendor. First time I heard of that though.

Oh well let me go to them this week.

Just an update to everyone. In the end it was left and right wheel swap fixed it (after the original place didn't). I took it to Supa quick. The 2 front wheels had their tyres replaced 3 weeks ago
