I had so many good ideas from this site that I hope you all l will be able to help me out of this new dilemma.
I am about to extend the Wingfield motor-plan for another 2yrs, unlimited mileage for R14 500. Maybe I'm being over-protective but 2 items; camchain and turbo are under insured as I got an estimate from BMW Century to replace those if they break. I only realized it recently as people are starting to say that pass 150 000km my 2006 M320D will start to have engine problems and I'm afraid I might be under insured for the other parts as well. Below are 2 prices I got if the chain and turbo goes, I need to replace it at BMW:
Chain(R650) + Guides and Tensioner(R2200) + Labour(R10 000) = R12 850
Turbo(R18 935) + Labour(R1600) = R20 535
The motor-plan covers the turbo assembly to R9 000 and cam to R5 000 only as seen below by the plan.
Part & Amount covered by insurance
1 Engine R 20,000
2 Gearbox R 15,000
3 Differential R 10,000
4 Diff Lock R 9 000
5 Transaxle R 9 000
6 Transfer box R 9 000
7 Managmt Syst R 9 000
8 Turbo Assembly R 9 000 *
9 Frontwheel Drive Unit R 6 000
10 Casings R 6 000
11 Electic Ignition R 6 000
12 Air Conditioner R 6 000
13 Cooling System R 6 000
14 Free Wheel Hubs R 5 000
15 CV Joints R 5 000
16 Propshaft/Couplings R 5 000
17 Steering Mechanism R 5 000
18 Braking System R 5 000
19 Fuel System R 5 000
20 Electronic Comps R 5 000
21 Electrical Winch R 5 000
22 Clutch R 5 000
23 Suspension R 5 000
24 Wheel Bearings R 5 000
25 Catalytic Converter R 7 500
26 Overfueling R 7 500
27 Overheating R 7 500
28 Drive Pulleys R 5 000
29 Cambelt Failure R 5 000 *
30 Cylinder Head GasketR 5 000
31 Viscous/Electr Fans R 3 000
32 Central Locking R 3 000
33 Entertain System R 2 500
Can you please tell me if these cover amounts will be sufficient if something should break down? I ask BMW to quote me on the other parts as well but Richard and Liebe, from BMW is not coming back to me. I also love my car, drove it to Zambia, via Windhoek and Botswana and it went like a dream and want to do it a few more times and also want to drive it through Lesotho.
To increase the cover to R2 500 - R6 500 extra per part will be an additional R3 000 and don't want to add more credit card debt if I don't need to. I only see that this will be beneficial if the turbo or chain goes. I take the car to Century City BMW for every service and had no parts changed since I got the car except for the run-flats, that I had to replace after my trip to Zambia, that cost me a pretty penny but that was it. I drive about 1800km per month, currently on 145000km.
As always, thanks in advance for your input as its worth a million bucks
