just too damn expensive still, I do think it is the way of the future, but with R15k a month I can get pretty far on petrol, even in my 335.

Interesting read , didn't think there was an EV with that mileage
Teslas have racked up a million and more Kilo;s there is a model X that is 3/4 years old with half a million on.

Given BM's superb reliability record there is no way i would buy one. A battery pack on a I3 is 400k, on a leaf it's 120k you do the math.

Lol electric vehicles in South Africa :roflol::roflol: , that’s such a bad idea with Eskom always coming with load shedding , where you gonna charge it then secondly the only way for Eskom to work is if they increase their tariffs astronomically which means it’s much cheaper just to pay for petrol , electric vehicles will never be the future they just a fill in spot til a proper solution is found.

My take is if you're looking to the future with regards to EV, you should do the same with power supply. Screw eskom and generate your own power. If EVs are the way of the future then so is solar power! But I do agree, with the amount of waste that goes into producing and discarding of the battery packs, there must be a better solution.

Ps, I'm no tree hugger, some of these are just part of the job.

I have always wondered what will these EV owners do, when something goes wrong with the battery.

I think even WeBuyCars wouldn't buy them.

The best compromise seems to be a hybrid. Win win situation. I dont see government investing heavily in infrastructure for EV. We might reach a situation where fuel becomes super cheap and almost obsolete and we can all drive big V8's :smilebounce:

According to SONA last night, Total is exploring for oil/gas off our coastline.
So, that V8 dream is becoming a reality.

On the hybrid point, I fully agree.
There are some really good used Honda CRZs - a manual boxed sports hybrid - for sale for under R150k.

Pruis/EX300H/Auris/RX450 hybrids your battery packs are between 30-50k.

BMW I8 batterypack 110k
Bmw I3 batterypack 340k

Nissan leaf battery pack 130k
