Hi Guys

Need some advise please, I saw the post about the M3 with bearing knock and how expensive it can be to fix BUT now I received a swop offer for a 2009 135I with bearing knock.

The dealer ssaid they think it is a bearing knock, but the thing is when you rev the car the noise does not get louder or faster, they drove the car and the car does not have power since the knock started.

I can get a low mileage sub assembly for R10 000 and my car is for sale for R120 000 (paid alot less for it).

Do you guys think it is worth it? Is there anything else to look out for?

Will you do the swap yourself?
Once you change engine number the car has a history and its value is never realised.

Hmmm first time ever that I hear of a 135i with a bearing knock. Just remember that if this was related to oil starvation it could me damaged turbo(s) aswell. Does it smoke on idle or when driven? What does the diagnotics say? It could even be failing coils or injectors or hpfp. I am not expert on these engines but the problem could be anything.

No wont do the swap myself, someone will have to do it for me. Dont really mind if the value of the car is lower. Just looking to enjoy a 135I/335I. :inlove:

Also tried to do research but not many bearing knocks on N54. No smoke and did not do a scan on the car. I think the knock will be the biggest problem.

It could be something that will cost you less than R10k to fix and you have struck gold at that price

Or

It could be an endless money pit.

If it were me i would get a pro to read the codes and based on that, make your decision.

Once you open a motor nothing costs just 10k.

Gaskets are expensive
Oil pump is expensive
Once the motor is open bearing need doing whilst you are there
Chains are expensive
The list goes on.

and on

Thanks for the input, not going to do it, now the guy wants me to pay in, so not going to take the change.

Going to try to sell my car and buy one cash or trade it in for a 330d.
