ADVICE ??

hey guys

need some advice , so my current 2007 e90 320d is sitting on 97 000 kms , and its time to change it before the motorplans over.
do i go for another e90 320d or a e90 330I ???
got offered from a bmw dealer a 2007 330i with 34 000 kms , sportspack
and sunroof only extras on the 330i .
what do i do ??
320D OR 330I ???? :thinking:

330i is not ever going to be in the same league economy-wise, but mine constantly puts a big smile on my face - and in all fairness, driven sensibly it is still quite an economical car! I seem to average between 10 and 12 l/100 km with a combination of lots of town driving and open road.

Compare service intervals and cost as well as general running costs on both vehicles (Diesel compared to Petrol), then consumption will not seem such a big issue anymore!

I would say yes, think unichip has a unit that on certain cars you can actually select between different mappings from economy to sport.

Brilliant cars, will always make you happy (sportspack is awesome). I get similar economy on the car but I didn't buy mine for the fuel consumption

id go for th 330i,but first find out the price from your dealer to extend the mp,also work out an average of 10km/litre then calculate your monthly traveling,compare it with the diesel.

That makes no sense, you can run a single map that does both, having an economy map and a sport map just means either, you don't know what you're doing, or you are tuning cars with carburetters or CIS, or have a very crude and poorly designed EFI system.

If you getting a car on motorplan, then try getting a facelift model.. If you have been happy with your 320d then I would say stick with that or go for a 330d.

For our E46 To extend it by 1 year cost us R2800 then to extend it by 1 more year the following year was about R2900.. in the last 2 years we have has nearly R35K work done to it.. So it has been worth it..

Extending my years & Mileage gets a bit more pricey

I got a quote to extend my motorplan for another year on a 320i e90 for R3400-00.The extension on the motorplan is quite cheap if the car has done less than 100 000km. Once the car goes over 100 000 km it becomes more expensive.

Well,

the 330 is naturally aspirated as you know,

and since you are coming from a turbo background i would suggest takeing a 330 for a spirited drive,

The 3 litre is a peach of an engine and matched to superb chassis..

Now why i mentioned turbo vs naturally aspirated is that - often when moving from a turbo to a NA the NA car feels slower due to the linear power curve, u dont get that shove of torque at x Revs.. its all available from the get go..

Also NA delivers superb throttle response compared to the diesel, and while fuel consumption would beb etter on the diesel, it also comes with a smoking exhaust, and grumbly sound after a while, and a LOT less performance..

The 330i motor will run and run till the cows come home while the diesel becomes a bit trickier later on in life..

I would without a doubt in my mind go for a 330i Manual.. a Diesel just wont cut it, but it depends on you

BTW the long term tests on the 330i have all said it is an exceptional car and while their are faster alternatives(335i) the 330i is still a gem of a car..
