Advice when buying a BMW

Hi BMW fans.

Hope all is well and that the holiday is treating everyone good.

Since I have never bought/owned a BMW, I have decided to come here for advice.

I have the option to buy a black, 2015 320i GT Luxury A/T. When I receive the car it will have between 135k-145k km on the clock. Full service history with BMW dealership... The overall car is looked after very well, no broken components inside and car drives smoothly.

I can get the car for R145k.

Can anyone tell me if this price is worth it and what I can expect that will have to get replaced in the near feature. Don’t want to buy the car if lots of problems will come with it.

Can anyone also help with an estimate of what one can expect to pay for maintenance (service etc.)

I just want to do some homework before hand.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

In terms of the 320i, if it is the 2015 it likely has the N20 engine, which is a contentious discussion to bring up.. That motor has not had the best track record, you are welcome to search the forum for more details around this..

The N47 2.0 diesel engine also has a quirk or 2 but it is a far more durable engine at the same KMs.. The 3.0d motor being BMWs most solid one actually from this era.

On the Gearbox, I would check if the box was serviced at 100k kms at ZF as this is essential maintenance to do and again at 180k kms.. Also items like suspension etc will come up and should also have been attended to. The car can drive smoothly but does not mean that items not attended to will not come around to bite you. FSH means oil was swopped and actually at intervals which is also longer than ideal to keep the motor in good health.

My 2c on the matter, and advice, if possible look for a diesel and one which has had some of the basic preventative maintenance done as mentioned. Good luck researching more and getting more input!
