Hi Guys,

So after some serious thought and research I recently sold my Xbox and decided to go on to build a gaming pc.

What I want to know is where is the best places to purchase the hardware from?

Thanks

I don't have one as I am going to be purchasing hardware over a few months and complete the build

How much will I be looking at for something decent? Maybe 10-12k?

P.s. Try and avoid Intel as they do have some issues as your pc gets older, bt that's just personl experience and advice :) Oh one more thing, do not go for a liquid cooling system as if it leaks and you want to claim, there is no more Warranty and guarantee on any thing.

If you're not in a rush, try http://www.phoenix-tech.net/SA/
Amazing customer service & really awesome prices.
They will match or beat other prices.
wootware is also quite cheap.

Also join carbonite forums, amazing deals there. It's like Gumtree for PCs
I built up a 20k system for about 12k
i7, 7970, H100, 256GB SSD etc

I'm quite big into gaming especially the competitive side, My team just finished 2nd in SA for the first leg of the Do Gaming Competition for BF3.

If I were you I would stay away from phoenix-tech. Slow and unreliable. They lie about stock sometimes as well. +1 for Rebeltech.

If you want to get a pre built pc go for www.evetech.co.za their prices really aren't that bad.

If you have any questions be it with parts or peripherals please don't hesitate to pm me. Don't waste money on inferior stuff like I have :nonono:

Ill be more than happy to give a guide line for what parts you should look at if you have a budget.

Also, I don't know if I can do this, pm me if you want Asus/MSI parts for your pc. I might be able to get a decent enough price for you.

Prepare to dig deep into your pockets for a decent graphics card.
I recommend the GTX660 as it's good value for money.

ASRock Extreme 4 (great value for money) - R1,700
Intel i5 3570 (go with the K if you want to overclock) - R2,500
nVidia GTX660 (good value for money) - < R3,000

That brings you to around the R7,000 mark. All you need now is a case (< R1000), PSU (~R1000), RAM (~R500), HDD (cost will vary depending on how much space you need/want).

I know that you mentioned that you wanted to avoid Intel, but they are dominating the market right now, so I'd give them some serious consideration. My Q6600 has been going for about 7 years now, without missing a beat.

Ok so i have done some searching, this is what i have came up with

If i missed out anything please feel free to advise me

i7 CPU 3820 - R 3200
Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H - R1464
Nvidia GTX660 - R3036
2x 8gb Corsair Vengeance memory - R450X2
Mecer 128GB SSD - R 1290
Asus blu ray combo - R981
Corsair CX500 - R648
Sigma Unicorn Casing(still undecided) - R435

I have 3.5TB of external storage would i still need more internal?

How would i know what casing to check for and if everything will fit in there??

If the pricing is high for certain items please let me know where can i get it at a better price?

Thanks for the assistance and advice thus far

GPU: 7950 > 7870 > 660 So try wootware for a 7950 @ R3200.
RAM: I'd say 2x4GB is more than enough, Gskill X is often better than Corsair Veng.
SSD: Not too keen on the Mecer, I'd recommend Samsung, Intel or my personal fav the Vector or Vertex 4.

Rest seems good, have a look at the Bitfenix Prodigy case before you decide though, quite an amazing little case. It's a mini-ITX factor so you'd need a diff MB, the Asrock Z77E-ITX goes for 1600-1700 but def worth it for the unique case.
I have one in white, it was love at first sight :inlove:

I'm selling a brand new Samsung 830 SSD but it's a 256GB so might be out of your price range. Will PM you shortly.

I'm a console gamer & I'll probably get the PS4 but it'll be slower than most high end PCs of today. So not exactly next-gen tech which is disappointing but consoles tend to be more efficient in their resources usage.
