Hi guys

So my desktop PC decided to start with some gremlins.....Randomly freezes.

After restarting it keeps on freezing randomly sometimes while still posting, somethings while loading windows, sometimes windows loads and only then it freezes.....So I can't do anything.:thumbdo: Any ideas?

But since the PC is about 4 years old I think it time to get a new one anyway. Any advice on what to get? I need a proper gaming PC. Budget +- R20k

Freezing in post screen is either faulty ram over overheating on CPU, give me more specs on pc.

+1 on that.

There is a app or two you can run to check everything.

What operating system are you running?

Yes, obviously not software...What do you want to know? CPU fan is working fine and temp is fine....

Was also thinking ram or some loose motherboard / power....

It's a P5N32-E m/b, Q6600 cpu, 2x1Gb ram, 8800GTS

If you haven`t fiddled inside you wouldn`t really have lose plugs and so on.

Might be the ram chips busy going.

Maybe unplug everything dust it off and then re-assemble?

Otherwise a windows re-install solves all the problems I've experienced so far :thumb: :)

If it is RAM would it not freeze at the same place during POST? Funny thing is also after some resets, once it said CMOS checksum failed...

I haven't......well not before the problem. I now fiddled with everything to make sure nothing was loose.

Maybe get the cmos battery checked and replaced, found that it makes some unexplained KAK as well.

But ya the dissemble reassemble might work as well.

XP? which one and which service pack?

Slegs....

Not so much about the price for now, deciding on what to get in terms of m/b, CPU, graphics. Then can find best price....

You want clone or brand?

Brand....I like ASUS m/b....

So I removed the one stick of ram and it still froze.:thumbdo:

Then I put that one back and removed the other one.....now it has not frozen yet....

Remove the RAM first, dust the slots and the RAM (a clean paintbrush works well for both) and reinstall. Run a RAM checker overnight. If it still bombs out, it might be the PSU. Borrow one from a friend, or buy a new one and install. If you buy new, size it correctly for your new PC, so if it doesn't fix the current problem, you can use it for new PC. R20k is a huge budget for a PC and should get you a very decent PC.
