ADVICE NEEDED

Hello All

I am thinking of buying a 2004 2.5l X3 (steptronic) for daily use.

Please give me your opinion(s) about the vehicle.

One of my partners owns one and he has warned me that the 2.5 version is "very thirsty". His vehicle's fuel consumption is worse than my M3 and Mcoupe. Are the X3’s fuel guzzler's or does the driver have a lead foot?

Thanks in advance.

LOL... sounds like a question posed by the fifth gear guys!!!

im also interested in finding out about the finer details of these cars. the missus will have to replace her xtrail sometime or other, and we're both bmw fans since i got my 1er!!!

underpowered engine for such a heavy vehicle i reckon so guy probably pushes the car harder to make it go and hence higher fuel consumption.

I have been advised that the transfer cases go poof, then its like 20k and it a sealed unit so it cant be rebuilt.

Not the right engine for this car unfortunately, due to it's weight and xDrive config - would advise against it.

Try to look for the 3.0d engine if you really want a X3.

Just looking at the amount of posts in the Xfanatics section should give you an indication of how popular the e83 X3 specifically is.
Risking that I might be beaten by those who own them, I would say that the X3 is just a gay X5:rollsmile:.
You pay for all the SUV qualities and status , but get none of it in return.
In that segment I would rather opt for an e53 X5 (preferably the 4.8is:praise:) or a Ford Territory ST.

+1

E53 X5 offers so much better value for money. Comes with much more toys, better engines and is based on the E39.
