Advice needed for daily driver and track or weekend car

Ok I had 2 328i's and now have a m3 4door. Both 328's were quick but dont compare to the M. The 328 is a nice starting platform. It is very quick and could pull with the M till 3rd gear however the suspension in the M is so much more better. Also get the 328 with the m52 engine this would be post 97. Its a better engine to work with and is less troublesome (keep in mind 328's have very fragile head gaskets).
With regards to your daily driver you rather keep the 120d or even sell it and buy some cheap run around car. A m3 is not a daily driver if your a poor ou like me, since it is quiet costly to maintain. Spark plugs alone come to just over a grand. If your day to day milage is low and you dont mind spending extra at the petrol station go for the M. 36 or 46. You will definately have more fun in it on and off the track.

Thanks man, will have a look. :thumb:

@Major

I've looked at the e30 325i. It's not much cheaper than the 328i. Haven't looked at the weights, but I think the e30 would be lighter. If a good example came around, might consider the e30.

@Heven

Alot is based on cost I guess. The 120d is great as an everyday driver. The engine sound isn't inspiring, but the whole car comes alive when driven harder than normal. It's no track car though... I would love an M3 as a daily driver. I'm a little apprehensive about taking the e46 M3 round the track - my dream car by the way - due to cost. But hey who knows what will happen next year... :dunno:

Interesting... That's pretty impressive. :thumb: Considering that the driving instructor I did my advanced driving with did a 2:04 in a 135i with the performance kiton it - if i remember correctly.

tuning the 120d should be pretty easy leaving you with more money to spend on suspension ect...
maybe you could look at ways to make the turbo louder to drown out the diesel noise :)

what about the Toyota MR2 ive seen that its easy to fit an eaton supercharger which give you big gains

With regards to engine output, yeah I agree. Very easy to get good gains. Also about 90 kgs lighter than a 328i.

:facepalm: My turbo's loud enough as it is.

This considered, I still think it's better as a daily driver than a track car.

Was thinking about the MR2 in the past... Good idea, epecially with the RSi motor.

But it still aint no straight six (almost 3 litre) beemer... :)
