Adaptive LED lights in South Africa

Hi all

I have been the proud owner of a 2018 X5M for just over a year now and since day 1 have been trying to see if the Adaptive LED lights work as advertised. I cannot seem to get them to do any of the cool tricks despite trying just about every time I do night time driving (which admittedly hasn't been too much with lockdown most of the year). The only extra functionality over what I would term "standard lights" is the cornering lights that come on when turning a corner. This is pretty cool but nowhere near adaptive or anything like the video below.

I did read elsewhere that this spec is not available in the US and is therefore coded out for cars States bound so is is possible that this is the case in SA as well? Hopefully someone out there more knowledgeable than me can point me in the right direction.

If it’s not working and all the hardware is present, it’s quite straightforward to code it on.

I have adaptive LED on my X6M. Headlights in auto mode and click the second button on the left side indicator stalk once headlights are on and that activates the adaptive mode.

City driving whether highways or suburban roads you won't experience anything like in the video other than it managing your brights.

Get out on the open road and you'll see it come alive, lighting up signs, bouncing around identifying all sorts of things. Alot of what's in the video will occur.

Driving in Jhb I've never seen it do all that unless roads are completely empty and streetlights off.

And that is exactly what I have now done. I got a bluetooth OBD2 adapter and BimmerCode app and now have the lights working just like the demo video. They're actually quite amazing to see in action. @"F21GP" The button on the left stalk only switched on auto headlights but since the coding update it work like you describe.

Also now:
* Auto Start/Stop is defaulted to off
* Mirrors immediately fold on comfort locking (previously had to keep holding for a few secs)
