Who else has read the book?

I am about 3 quarters of the way through this book and I am really enjoying it so far. It is a must read for anyone who enjoys following the series. I watched the series before reading the book, and now I am trying to watch it again in my free time as I go along with the book. It complements the series really well and puts everything into perspective. When watching the series before, I sometimes found it difficult/confusing to understand why certain things had happened the way they did or why certain decisions were made, but once I started reading, everything sort of fell into place and I had a better understanding of the tv series :=): The book is substantially more detailed than the series.

I've read the first 4 books so far. Like you say it is far more in-depth when compared to the TV series. It works great as a companion for better understanding of the history of the characters and the events that took place before the timeframe the series/book is set in.

I finished the first one not so long ago and have picked up the second book. I just need to find time to read it... Over Christmas hopefully...

Really awesome book and I find the series compliments it quite well

Also I think you get a better grasp of the relationships by reading the book. With the series there are so many characters that it's sometimes confusing to understand how one person is related to the next.

I see you can pick up the box set for around R600. You guys think it's worth getting that instead of buying the books individually?

Read the first three books - I wouldn't peg these books as light reading at all though, they take forever to plough through. I've begun to just wait out for the series. :bluecry:

Rather buy them one at a time. And wait for all the books to release before buying the set (so you have matching books). There are still 4 books outstanding and Martin is nowhere close to finishing the next book in the series.

The main fear is that he dies before the series is complete as there is just so much to get through in terms of storyline.

It can be done, but these days I just haven't the time to sit and flip pages :bluecry:

I usually read about 100-150 pages per week on average:fencelook: But this week I got through just over 200 pages. The only time I read is just before bed so I can only do about 2-3 chapters before dozing off.
