850Ci first start in ...years?

Hi guys, so I have recently made a deal with the devil to fulfill a lifelong dream of mine...BMW 850Ci :) I will start a thread under the showroom section, but first I need some advice. Car is in a very sorry state and seems to have been neglected while undergoing a (very poor) repaint by the PO. Car was "running when parked" but I have no idea how long ago that was... :fencelook:

The aim is to save this as it is a very special car...details coming soon

The motor does swing, but is there anything you guys would recommend I do before trying to start her? Besides, oil change, sparkplugs (3 x more than my daily!) and filter change?

Check out the youtube channel of this guy M539 Restorations, he has revived two 850i's that stood for long periods, worth a watch as it has good information on getting these V12s running again.

Was just about to recommend this! I recently discovered and binged this channel. What a cathartic experience.

Good luck on the build, Benji!

Take plugs out and rotate a couple of times with the fuel pump disconnected.

Before you even get there take plugs out get cylinder half way down and pour Liqui Molly Engine flush in the bore and leave for a day.
Do that 12 times oh what joy.
Crank engine to evacuate the cylinders.

Replace spark plugs
Try and fire it up with the air mass sensors disconnected.

If it fires up switch off empty the oil.
Fill 50/50 ATF and 20w50 and let idle for an hour
Empty the oil change oil filter pour a good 5w40 and you should be good to go.

If you need any spares there is an 850 being stripped but get ready to pay top dollar.

Let me know if you want the number

Who is going to subsidise your fuel bill :)

Thanks Peter for your comment. I need to get a radiator etc before I can attempt to start the car. This project is going to be slow as I have 2 other project cars that need to get finished before this one starts.

I seemed to have missed the day in school where they said "focus on one project at a time"
