Great going Luis, keep it up. you seem to have the energy and motivation to sort it out for the next 30 years. I like the colour of your car. I have nightmares just looking at all the rusted parts. Went thru the same mess. and resprayed mine with Hammerite. BMW did not do a great job in the assembly line originally when these cars were built as far as rust is concerned. Seems to be a common problem with the cars.

Thanks Meatman. Yes been quite an ordeal but almost done and then it will be great.

When ever I do something like this I always prefer to go beyond, in the long run rather take time preparing and stripping as much as possible. Powder-coat and nickel or galavanise as much as you can. In the long run its very beneficial.

So I love this part when pieces start arriving for re-assembly from the sandblasters and powder coaters.

So nice to get lovely new shiny bits and pieces..

So the fuel tank is back in, some fuel lines connected.

See the difference between the before and after picture of the bumper brackets. This shows what a differance all this work will eventually lead too.

Main suspension part comes back from the galvanisers today then the real re-assembly will start.

So some late night work on Friday left me with side shafts done, what a pain to get 6 steel balls into their respective chambers, and do it 4 times.. @#$$

Anyway they done, new seal and o-rings fitted to the diff shafts and re-assembled. Now I can finish cleaning the diff and paint.

Wheel bearings re-inserted and then I pushed in the shafts only to forget the brake backing plates. So pressed the hubs off again this morning and will re-assemble today. Pain when you forget a step!!

All the plastic clips and fittings cleaned and now the sensor cables were next for a good spring clean.

So looking good to have her on the ground by end of Sunday.

Will only need to wait for the new handbrake cable.

The 850 is now parked after the last Breakfast run on Sunday and the long overdue rear end is coning off.

4. Fuel Tank and all pipes to be removed
5. Diff and side shafts removal

7. All rear suspension bushes removal and replace (18 in total. all new OEM from BMW) already arrived
8. All suspension parts to be sandblasted and powder coated or sprayed with Poly Urethane paints
9. New fuel lines
10. Tank cleaned inside and outside, new hoses and clamps
11.. Bolts an nuts replaced or electro Nickel Plated
12. Bumper parts sandblasted and powder coated or Poly sprayed.
13. New bilsteins sports shocks installed, redo rear coils, re-temper the coils to original compression strength

Actually forgot to update..

Re-assmebled and it drives like a dream. No more fuel problem issues and I know its all clean under there.
After the build we took it to Angelas Picnic, bronkhorstspruit and back to the Vaal with not one issue and an average consumption of 12.5lt/100km

The next thing to be done is the removing of the calipers, they will be sandblasted, recoated, rebuilt and installed together with new brake hoses and pipes. That I will be sending to a specialist. After storing some cash I will be doing the leather and the respray.

if i may make a suggstion, Powerflo did mine in S/S and they did a brilliant job. that tried 2-3 mufflers until i liked the sound and only charged me for what was finally installed. These guys also seem to have the best configuration for the exhaust system. What the did was to go with the last configuration of the 4.0l motor as standard in the 540i and 740i before BMW went to the 4.4l as standard. I had mine finally chipped by Koos Swanepoel Racing Developments in Stikland with a DASTEK Uni-Chip. Gave me about 8% more Kw and Nm. But the mapping made a massive difference to town driving and the torque band kicks in a lot lower making for a lovely town drive..
