Thanks guys. Only problem with taking so long to restore at the coast is that the frikken car starts rusting before you even drive her for the first time!!! Got to sort out the damp problem in my garage. My wife thinks I'm nut cos I want to put an airconditioner in the garage, but I won't in the lounge and bedroom. Priorities I say!!

Sorry guys, no pics today. Spent the night sorting the ignition wiring and fired her up last night . You won't believe the feeling when the engine barks into life! I say bark because there is no exhaust on her yet, just the downpipe. Anyway manged to start her and get the revs up a bit. Still need to do the final air/fuel mixture and timing settings but will leave that for last when the exhaust is done.

Got my trim guy coming around this evening to fit the last of the door rubbers and the sunroof trim, so will post more pics when the interior is finished. Bodyshop coming to my house on Saturday for final touch ups (Big up to Paramount Bodyworks in PE for their service). By Sunday, all but the exhaust and Alpina Decals will be left. Cutting it fine, but I will be driving her into the George Showgrounds on the 11th!!!

So time for a few more pics, sorry for the delay, but been burning the midnight oil trying to get her finished. Only tonight and tomorrow night left and then its off to the show on Friday.

Applied the Alpina decal kit today:

Also finished the interior. Fitted the corerct Recaro bucket seats in original BMW vinyl. Alpina woodrim steering wheel and gearknob compliment the interior.

Tonight I've got a few odds and ends to do in the engine compartment and will fit the bonnet. Lastly, exhaust and wheel alignment and then hopefully just the timing and fuel mixture and I can test drive!

Fitted the bonnet last night and managed to tidy up some odds and ends as well. Bonnet took quite some time to line up properly to get the gaps right and to shut nicely. Did a better job of the bonnet than the boot, so looks like I'm going to have to spend some more time on the bootlid :bangdesk: Fitted the sill mouldings as well, so she is almost there now.

Going to try and get the exhaust done today so I can tune her tonight and hopefully drive her tomorrow.

When I did the boot in mine, I had 2 guys helping, then I got into the boot and gave orders and worked from there, not the most fun part of reassembly, almost as bad as getting the windows to line up perfectly.

BTW, where the hell did you find those seats? Ive been looking for a pair fo a while now... that and a 2002 lsd, bit scarce.

What are you doing for the exhust? Do you have alpina headers?

Looking good. A car I can drool over.

Jacques

I bought a ti some years back that had the seats, LSD and 235/5 Getrag box in. At first I thought it was an Alpina itself as it was also Colorado Orange. When I found out it wasn't, I nabbed the good bits, put my tiii bits in it and sold it on. I have since seen the car in Jhb it has been restored very nicely.

In terms of the exhaust, there is not much you can do with headers on a RHD car because of the steering box. The standard cast manifold isn't that bad, and the performance gain on the compromised headers for a RHD car is negligible. I've kept the standard manifold and downpipe, but had them, Ceramic coated

Get one of those dehumidifier machines. Im also looking into getting one. Far better to prevent rather then have to fix.

Any suspension fundi's out there.

I fitted an Eibach 1" drop kit with Bilstein HD shocks to my suspension. The back has dropped nicely, but the front is still sitting quite high and I'm not sure why. Any ideas?

It could happen if you fitted the fronts on the rear and vice versa. The rear coils should be the longer ones.

I thought about that, but I would have thought that the fronts would have naturally been longer as they have to take the weight of the motor etc.

Yup, the shorter spring is stiffer, due to less leverage(think about it as a straight piece of round bar, the longer it gets, the easier it is to flex. So to compensate for the engine the stiffer spring is used(since both are same diameter, thickness and spring-rate/meter). Swap them, you will see it will level out nicely. Also remember that you should have 3 people in your car(2 front 1 rear center) when you tighten your suspension(rubber/polyurethane joints) and anti roll bar up to have the right stress in them. Your car will also sit a slight bit higher if you fastened them unloaded.

Jacques
