Any suspension fundi's out there.

I fitted an Eibach 1" drop kit with Bilstein HD shocks to my suspension. The back has dropped nicely, but the front is still sitting quite high and I'm not sure why. Any ideas?

It could happen if you fitted the fronts on the rear and vice versa. The rear coils should be the longer ones.

Regards
Jacques

I thought about that, but I would have thought that the fronts would have naturally been longer as they have to take the weight of the motor etc.

Yup, the shorter spring is stiffer, due to less leverage(think about it as a straight piece of round bar, the longer it gets, the easier it is to flex. So to compensate for the engine the stiffer spring is used(since both are same diameter, thickness and spring-rate/meter). Swap them, you will see it will level out nicely. Also remember that you should have 3 people in your car(2 front 1 rear center) when you tighten your suspension(rubber/polyurethane joints) and anti roll bar up to have the right stress in them. Your car will also sit a slight bit higher if you fastened them unloaded.

Regards
Jacques

Thanks for the advice Jacques. Busy swapping the springs around as we speak. Getting flipping stressed though cos they still busy making up the flipping exhaust and I've still got some odds and ends to do before I embark on the 4 hour journey to George. Time is few!!!

Was awesome meeting you and seeing your car! She looks very pretty indeed!! :inlove:

Edit: We definitely need to increase the BMW Classics there next year, way too many Mercs, and only a handful of awesome BMW's!!!

So this is what she finally looked like at the show:

Had a very good response from the public as well as a photographer from Car Magazine. Holding thumbs that she might make it into the next edition.....

Thanks for all the encouragement, and it was great to meet Phillip and Jandre at the show.

Very nice! A job well done!

How was the drive there and back?

Regards
Jacques

Unfortunately, ran out of time and didn't get her running properly, so she was a trailer queen for the show. Taking a bit of a break tonight, but will have her driving by the weekend.

Was good to meet Classicman, and his 2002 is a gem.

Dennis' E30 333i is stunning.

But really, next year we need to get the BMW guys to step up to the plate. The 8 BMW's had a hard time against nearly a rugby field full of Mercs.

Man, that is inspiring!

My brother and his buddies found a 2002 last week. They have put it up for sale! I am hoping they consider restoring it.

Not in great condition but the motor sounds beautiful. Your project might just get them to keep it and turn it into a beauty like yours!

BTW, there are pics of the 2002 on the For Sale boards. I am not sure how much work it will take but it seems worth it.

I was like a kid in candy shop when I was paging through and saw your car which was immediately recognisable! The Merc's may have dominated the show, but so glad your car got this attention - truly awesome!! :praise:
