520d top up oil

What top oil is used on the 520d engines.

Is it the same as the 5w30 oil from BMW

Edit: didn’t get the oil that was used in the car? Are you asking if any 5w30 would suffice?

Yes, preferably get the BMW oil, if not, get Shell 5w30. Some fanatics use LiquiMoly, the guy who used to service my car used that on my car, now I’m back to BMW oil, I can’t seem to see a difference

Yepp i noticed that.

Its not the same oil. The D's use the LL04, the bottle even indicates thats its for BMW diesels engines

Incorrect, for South Africa all 20d and 30d models in the F10 have cat's and not dpf's so LL01 is fine, it's only the 535d that comes with a dpf.

My 2013 F10 520d was shown in ABM that LL04 oil must be used, not LL01.

Liqui moly toptec 4200 is approved for LL01 and LL04.

LL01 for petrol engines and LL04 for diesels. Go and ask for oil used in diesel engines from the dealership and they will give you the correct one  :fencelook:

Didn’t check when I did the X3 3.0D mid-interval oil change.

Good news; when you buy from a dealer, they supply correct oil.

I have heard that LL01 is also fine (for the engine), only key difference is in the additives for specifically for the diesel particle filter.
