Just to add to what Twinz said, the steptronic is one very capable box! You can even do the Alpina flash which will make it even more responsive. Since its an 08, it'll be the N54 twin turbo version which has huge potential for modding. Dont sell it short, its a good car, esp with the steptronic box. If you search the forum, you'll find many members have had great experience modding these cars! Good luck man

set up for doing illegal speeds all day and night she will drink around 16lt/100... back on pump fuel and meth like a civilised person will do 7.5-8.5lt/100 on freeway and 10/11lt 100 in traffic... a trip from Durban to JHB at night used about 3/4 tank fuel and the return was slightly less... it is a big car and the technology is 10 years old now but the OBC reading was comparable to an M135 with 8spd on our recent clarens trips..

a carbon clean and downpipes was the trick to good consumption for me...

Where you based Keegan? If in CT or JHB, pop past ZF so they can do a diagnostics check on the box before you buy. The boxes are awesome when they in good health, but costly to repair if they not.

I would consider the Alpina flash on these as essential, sooner rather than later. The stock software does make them smooth, but in order to make them this smooth there needs to be slippage of clutches to engage them, resulting in more wear over time. I would give up smoothness for reliability any day of the week.

I have a modded e90 335i Steptronic.

You wont go wrong.

Fuel consumption - 7.1 per 100km. Drive to Durbs
Gear shifts are smooth but could do with some speed, the Alpina flash will help.
Mine is modded with JB4, DP's, DCI's and CP. I still have some way to go.

Just make sure that you get as much history as you can on the car.

Hi Ratslaaf what do you mean by ZF? - I assume it is an auto shop in JHB.
Are they able to diagnose potential problems with the gearbox and engine?
Who is the best person to contact?

ZF is the company that makes these gearboxes for BMW. They have a service centre in Meadowdale, speak to Nico there.

Love the steptronic ! I have a 135i n54, thanks to Gert, with Alpina software. Since Gert loaded the software the consumption is better and the shifts are awesome, my friends describe it as instantaneous.

I've driven a e90 325i and that box is a nightmare, the 335i has the torque to suit the auto.

Nico at ZF will be able to tell you if the gearbox is within its specified ranges if you are able to get the car to him.
