335i E92 Convertible 80.000km, quality check

Morning guys!

Due to lost documents of the last quality check after I bought my car a new quality check was requested to get the motor plan onto my name and that was executed by a BMW dealer.

I was now informed that both domes in the front are bent slightly and need to be repaired by a panel beater. They told me that I drove to a huge potthole or over a speed bumper and that that is quite normal for these kind of cars. I was also informed that the two front rims ar not round any more.

Problem is:
I never hit a potthole since I got the car (October 2013).
There was no signal given by the steering wheel of any problems with my front rims or tyres.

I never heard about that before....:nonono:

What do you thing? Any ideas or comments?

Thank you!

how far apart were the two checks done?

why did you have to do it again on the same car?

Go to the dealership who did it first, im sure they keep records.

either way your insurance will have to repair this, its your word against theirs. If they want to be funny you will have to get this done by your insurance.

One was done by the seller before I got the car. This document disappeared. The same BMW dealer is doing it now again but is denying to do it because now something (the domes) is wrong!

What really pisses me off is the fact that they are telling that the metal part (dome is quite stiff) is bent or deformed now!
How huge must the potthole has been?
Why are the (after market) rims and tyres are not damaged?

Sorry dude, it seems you are dealing with a dodgy dealership there. Even if you repair your car, chances are they will find another fault e.g. "driving with aftermarket rims/tires" which they may put a comment on your motorplan.

I bought my BMW E93 335i second hand. It passed a BMW quality check, transfer of motorplan, despite the rear wheels being warn out. Later the dealer replaced them.

I never heard of issues with domes being bent. I know that front lower control arms and bushings may fail if you hit a large pothole.

You only chance is insurance. You must take the car to a BMW panel beater to have it checked up and submit a case through your insurance.

That is also my experience! But I never drove through a potthole since I got the car...

Hi
Ask the dealer for a CIA motor Plan report, which they must have if the car is still under motorplan. Everytime they do something it updates this report including services, parts changed or comments.
They must be able to pull this from their system. Then you can see if there were any previous damages ect. The feedback they are giving you sounds dodgy.

I was told a similar thing about a previous vehicle, that the front suspension had mushroomed from hitting a pothole/speed bump. Which had never happened.

Took it to the panel beaters who checked it and told me that the car was fine and not mushroomed, so took it to another dealership who confirmed that the vehicle was fine.

This wouldn't happen to be Cedar Isle would it?

It is cedar auto!

But I checked the domes yesterday also by myself, there is slight bent an deformed area which I can not find on other cars in the internet..due to the fact that both sides look exactly look the same I already thought this was build like that...can somebody provide a picture of his dome?

The shock towers on the E9x is often pushed upwards in the event of the car hitting a pothole. This does sometimes also damage the shock mounts and in some instances I have seen the locating pin being snapped off from the impact.
If the quality check was done and the car has done more than 1500kms then another quality check will have to be done. Its unfortunately the rules the dealers have to follow.

My problem is that I was told by the seller that the quality check was done before I got the car by Cedar....but unfortunately the document disappeared I was told...

Thanks for your help Bevan! Now I know that my car was never quality checked by the seller...

I have to state that Cedar Isle Auto is helping me now a lot, thank you guys for that! Good to be member of that Forum!!!!
