I do not know she had a exhaust leak and on my way to RGM it actually became a very loud blowing sound with almost no power,I thought it was one of the exhaust gaskets but according to RGM the exhaust is cracked

i dont think you will gain anything from changing manifolds... down pipes help but i have not seen anyone change the manifold... so i would just go oem... try S/Y and see what you find...

also have a look on realoem to see if maybe the 320d uses the same manifold because it would make it easier to find if it does... if worse comes to worse you could always weld up the crack but im not sure its such a good idea...

mor, how on earth would a 4 cyl manifold fit on a 6cyl engine? LOL

Anyway, I have lots of doubts as to whether it is cracked, your manifold is most likely stainless steel like the E60, and diesels run so cool, it is not very likely for the exh manifold to crack. But I would first make sure of what the problem is, you will have to do a lot of labour to get it off, maybe it is a gasket, maybe exh manifold, maybe turbo that is cracked. If it is gasket, just replace and all will be good again. If exh manifold, just get one from a scrapyard, if yours is different than the E60, try to get one from an E60, it is slightly better, and will lower turbo lag.

Are you currently running any mods? Do you still have the diesel particulate filter in the exhaust? If so, remove it at the same time, it will also reduce lag as well as exhaust gas temperatures at the turbo and manifold dramatically.

It happens when you hammer your car and then just switch it off. All turbo cars need to be idled after hammering! 330d manifolds do not run cool if it gets some boost between the robots!

Try Allistair at Powerflow. Im sure he will give you the best advise, whether to replace or repair. PM me if you want his number? If it is cracked, i would replace it.

Not the first 330d manifold I have heard of that went poof.

Its probably repairable, any engineering works will be able to sort it out for you. Any car garage will tell you that they cant repair, you need to replace...

if yours is the 150kw version, it should have the stainless manifold, not the cast like previous versions. in which case i can see no reason why it cannot be welded shut by a professional, if indeed it is actually cracked. i also think its much more likely to be a gasket thats gone, possibly between the turbo and manifold..

fyi, turbo diesels do not get near petrol turbo's egt's (MAX 700 celcius) .. unless its been tuned by a moron..

Diesel EGT runs very hot especially high performance and chipped.....
You also get high EGT's with blocked air filters, bad Turbo's, worn injectors etc.
Cracked and warped exhaust manifolds is more common on Turbo Diesel than on Petrol engines.
Welding will be temporarily.
Diesel exhaust manifold should be a rusty colour, if its blue (almost metallic) you are or have been running destructive high EGT's.
After you replaced the manifold be sure to fix the high EGT problem.

Good luck

High EGT's =740deg and up

oem diesels even modded diesel should not run very hot, if it does its been tuned crap.. cannot see why welding would not last on a stainless manifold, its welded together from factory..
destructive egt's on a bmw diesel will take out the turbo, the vnt vanes simply cannot take temp much above 750 celcius..

Thanks for all the advice gents,
It is a 150Kw which I took to rob green to remove the cat and chip/remap(180kw).Myself and a friend will start stripping tomorrow to asses the damage, but as I said Steve from Rob green said the manifold cracked and charged me R11000 to supply and replace the manifold,I declined the offer and decided to do it myself, will let you know once the care is stripped what the problem is.I always Idle the car for at least 1min even if I go for a Sunday drive before switching off
Forgive my forum chat ignorance but what is S/Y

Took out the exhaust manifold today it broke off from the housing whwr you mount the turbo

thats a new one.. was the turbo secured to the engine block by its bracket? its supposed to carry the weight of the turbo, so it does not all hang off the flange..
