328i (e36) de-sludge

Hi guys.

Just a quick bit of info needed. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I have come to suspect my 328i (e36) has a sludge build up happening.

The car lived all its life on a dusty farm in Mpumalanga (This could be the sludge culprit), and i have a problem with the tappets making a clicking noise when cold until the oil light goes off, and i get the same clicking noise when the oil falls short (just below minimum on the dipstick).

How would I know for sure if there is a sludge build up and if so how would I go about de-sludging an engine without any dismantling/disassembly?

any help would be great.

Thanks Guys

run some engine flush in the oil & do a oil change.. then in 2000 Km do it again.. then hopefully it will be fine

Yeah. Think im going to try that andrew. Thanks for the info. BTW, any particular brand of engine flush to go for? and any precautions when doing an engine flush?

I would try getting hold of the liqui moly..

Put it in the engine oil.. drive the car easy for 30 or so minutes..

then drain the oil & replace filter.. and fill new oil..

Then in 2000Km do another oil change.. with out engine flush this time..

I would try using shell helix oil as its got good cleaning properties

you can try the following: drain the current oil, add 2 liter of parafien with 500ml oil, start don't ref, idle for abour 5min. drain mixture, change filter& oil, you should be good to go. Got this information from a mech from nissan. Hope this will help

this was a guide on a standard 4 cylinder engine, think it can be adapted to 3:1 ratio for other makes

what i always do when buying a second hand car is, drain about a litre of oil out the engine. replace that oil with diesel an d idle the car for 5 min. this has never let me down...
