I recently sold a log type manifold to a guy who fitted it to his M52 motor and is making close to 250kw reliably at 0.8 bar boost. Then there are other vehicles running turbo M50 motors making significantly more power with forged internals.
The point I was making with the suggestion of the conversion is to give the author a clear idea of what possible conversions are available. If the cheapest conversion will offer him performance which is potentially lower, then obviously there would be no point.

That's all true, but then he would have to do an engine swop and install a turbo to get a decent performance increase wish will cost (not to mention that he'd have to pull a perfectly good IS apart). Would be cheaper to just install a turbo to what he already has even though he won't be able to push it as far he he could with the 328 motor. That to me seems like the only proper solution here when your on a budget and want decent improved performance. Or you could always stroke it, but I've heard that some people have constant niggles (Don't ask me what though) while others have no issues. I guess it comes down to what and how you get it done :dunno:
If it's case of having the fastest IS around then you'll need to spend a lot and in the end you may not have much "IS" left (depending on what you do of course). Personally, it doesn't seem worth the effort just to end up with a very fast 2 door E30 that you could have build from any model (And might even have cost you less).
