325i Blown Head Gasket

Hi All,

Oh boy, so where do I begin?

Had plans to rebuild the my 325i Touring and have a bit of fun, but, as usual, got side tracked by other projects........ :=):

My wife used it to go down to the coast. The car overheated on the way back and stranded her in Bloem. (Got shafted by Sovereign, but thats another story! :argh: )

Upshot: Blown head gasket.....

So, what do I do:

1. Repair the thing for now: Need special tools, (Unless I can beg someone on the forum to lend/ rent? ) Gonna cost me about R 8000k.

2. Replace motor: Cost about R20k for used M54. Worried about the reliability of the repair. (She seems to have got quite hot) I haven't opened her up yet, so dont know what the state of the block and bores are.

3. Go the whole hog and install the S54 conversion, which I have been dying to do, although it is gonna have to be on a shoe string, given current finances. I have no idea of costs, over and above the engine. Hence the post. Bolt on? Engine management issues? Brake upgrade? I would appreciate any and all input!

You have all been so helpful in the past even though I haven't posted much on this forum. (Haven't needed to cos the car has been rock solid up until now :praise: )

Hopefully I can contribute through this experience.

:ty:

Japan auto for motor. Swap motor and then strip the overheated motor to see what's wrong. Sell off the good parts to recoup costs.

Alu blocks don't do well with big overheats, the bores turn oval and you lose compression from blow-by past the rings.

Problem, 3.0l Beemer engine can never make the same power then the 2JZ motor and last that long. The Beemer motor needs to be changed completely before it becomes reliable.

I agree, it's just too costly to try and fix (the entire cooling system to start off, compression woes, head...etc.

No water , our engines are very sensitive , that gasket can blow easily if slightly overheated :thumbdo:
