320D options

Good day

I am in the market for a 320D A/T. My budget has an upper limit of R200k.

I have been trolling the car websites and it has become clear that I would have to settle for a 2009-2010 model with mileage of between 90 000km and 120 000km.

I do at least 2200km a month, thus about 26 000 km a year, which puts me close to the 2 services in a year, assuming a service every 15 000km(please correct me if this is not the case).

Now the questions:

Can someone give me an estimate on the cost of servicing a 320D, minor and Major services at a dealer? As well as some opinions on servicing it yourself?

I have found two candidates:

2010 320D Exclusive (125 000 km) for R189k (roughly 42 000km a year...?)

2009 320D Exclusive (93 000 km) for R189k (Roughly 23 000km a year)

Which one is the better pick based on the facts before you?

Thanks

First of all You need some one that can check the Turbo and Gearbox before you take either.

I would go for the one less then 100k on the clock and take a Extended motorplan with it. Although there is life after motorplan. Then you don't need to worry about minor or major services.

What area are you staying in

Ps the only reason im saying the one less then 100k is cause of the following; It should still have motorplan with it and will be cheaper then Extending it out of motorplan.

Usually the E90's do not have issues with Turbo but you do not know what the previous owner's drive style was.

Thanks for the advice Dippies, I will then definitely take the vehicle to be checked before I close the deal.

I read on some forums that the 320D engine also has a possible issue with the timing chain, is there any truth to this?

What would an extension of the motorplan typically cost? Can I do that even though I don't purchase the vehicle from a BMW dealer?

I stay in Pretoria and work in Kya Sand.

Typically around 15k Plus. unsure of the amount.

Never heard of the issue with a timing chain.

Be ware that the only issues if have experienced and heard of is that the Dual mass Flywheel don't last. and if under motorplan its painless to replace.

Other then that its the Perfect Car IMO of course. Great Power and Great consumption.

Yes remember to budget for tyres. Run flats are pricey.

My father-in-law has a 325i. Replaced his run flats for normal tyres and added a space saver in the boot. Has anybody else done something similar, any difference in ride quality?

Can you guys give me an idea of the tyre prices and how long they last?

16" should be cheaper than 17" right?

The last tyres I put on my Ford ranger was R2000 a pop but they last 100 000km easily.. Am I in for a shock...?:fencelook:

These are tractors and they run and run and run.
Keep your service up to date and should be fine.

Just make sure you check the vehicle out thoroughly
