Hi Guys,

So on number 99 we decided not to go down to the coast but rather to my Dad in Vereeniging seeing as he had some chemo inplants done last Thursday for prostate cancer.

Long story short, setting the cruise control to 130km/h travelling on the newly built N17 from Secunda the following was achieved on a 406km round trip:

* Average speed: 108.1 km/h
* Average fuel used: 17.5km/l :)
* Total Range of Tank: 1135.6 km

Granted the above was 95% highway driving I think its VERY impressive. Doing 400km on a 1/4tank of fuel with performance on demand is great!

Range in Tank 1002km + 133.6km travelled = 1135.6km

Thats 5.7/100km.... very very nice!!!

What does this figure go to in Traffic driving?

Thanks Dmonic,

Town driving seems stable at around 14.8km/lt. Havent had her long enough to do a proper calculation. That includes some 'spirited' driving...

Can i envy you now or later?

consumption is pure brilliance!

Thanks Azz,

Average consumtion was 18.1km/lt at some stage. Loving this car...

and judging by your mileage, the car is still young and may give even better consumption later one after it runs in more?(i stand under correctionwrt diesel motors here)

Agreed Azz,

According to BMW Techie between 7000km and 10 000km you actually 'feel' the engine release... Just hope its not with a big bang and a puff of smoke. Dont know how much more 'release' there can be because she is a beast as is...

Speaking from experience here, the Diesel on the long road is just brilliant in fuel consumption. I am always amazed when I am driving down to the coast and fill about R200 worth of fuel (halfway ~ Bergview)to top up again. (This is travelling around 140km/h)
I did once where I filled up in JHB, drove down to the coast, drove around for the whole weekend and still had about a quarter tank left before filling up to come back home.
My best consumption on my Diesel was 6.7l/100kms

So BMW M, enjoy her, she is pure bliss:thumb:

You know it is illegal to drive with the foglights on unless the conditions warrant it? Not to mention annoying.

@BMW M - your right, but if i aint mistakne, you have the 135kw diesel motor, which means your going to get much beastiality from her later on. but you got the best spec vehicle, i still maintain that!

Enjoy bru!

You shitting me:thinking:

Hopefully coisman can verify that for us. But fog lights do not have the cutoffs like headlights, instead, they are more like brights, and can blind oncoming traffic.

@P1000, fog lights are supposed to shine just below normal driving lights so do not understand your comment that "they are more like brights, and can blind oncoming traffic." Cannot see how this is possible. Wait, maybe when coming up an incline:dunno:

Appologies in advance for the thread hijack

Hope its ok for me to comment on this thread :thinker: Thats is great consumption and truly an amazing car. I have an E46 320d 2002 model, the best I got was 4.4l/100km. I was doing a trip from durban to jhb and set the speedo cruise @ 125km/h true speed. When I filled up in JHB the range went up to 1350km. Driving around town in traffic i get 5.5 - 5.8l/100km's.

Regards
V

You have them confused with spotlights... Which the last time I checked, if not in use, needs to be covered. I cant see it being illegal driving with foglights on seeing as it improves your vehicles visabilty to others. I always drive with mine on and have never been repremanded by an 'spietkop'... The fact that it bothers you just proves my point of aiding in visability :)

Specialy the Dynamic in Space Gray... Kind of gets lost against the black top of the road.

You are challenging the reaches the dynamic range of your eyes are functioning. Its the same as the sun at sunrise/sunset, I can clearly see the sun, but its not just the sun I am worring about hitting. So you are visible to traffic, but its on behalf of others safety... This is actually more applicable to the rear fog lights that are closer to eye level and very bright. The front ones are OK in my books.

+1 for the rear fog lights. I used to have mine on and apparently you only supposed to have them on when visibility is poor. Because I had mine on often, the fog light globe generates a lot of heat and slowly started melting the bulb housing. Only realised this when the globe burnt out and got an error message.

Moral of the story, Do not use rear fog lights unless you have to

PS. Anyone have smoked backlines for sale:thinking:

Makes no diffrence to me. Mine is always on, aids in visability. No ones going to tell me that I cant use them, it aids in making my car more visable thus making my journey safer for myself and my family. Nuffsaid!

Been through a lot of roadblocks/traffic stops etc and have nver been given any stick about them being on on any of my cars.
