320d battery replacement

Good Morning Everyone.

My Battery has been messing around for a while now.

Sent it in to BMW when it was under MP and they kept the car for 2 days and came back saying the battery needs replacing with the issue of my tracking device causing the drain and damage to the battery. BMW refused to replace the battery as they say that the tracking device caused the issue.

I got discovery out to replace the unit and have been using the car for a few months. The only issue is that car has a slow start.

I was thinking of just replacing the battery so i called BMW and they have the Battery at R3649 inc vat and R750 + vat for the registration. The guy also said that i do not need to do the registration if i hook up a secondary battery to the terminals under the bonnet whilst changing the battery.

Is there any truth to this work around?

"The guy also said that i do not need to do the registration if i hook up a secondary battery to the terminals under the bonnet whilst changing the battery." - I am pretty sure that is not the case, battery will need registration either way. I belive it has got to do more with the charging voltage than just the installation of the new one. I am sure someone here will shed more light on this topic.

The above quote for the new battery is also very good in my opinion. I paid more than 5k for a new battery for my 2016 F54 MINI Clubman, and was recently quoted over 6k for a F25 X3 20d battery from BMW

I actually just did it at BMW. They charged R930 for fitment and registration.

The battery price is a special that Supertech currently has that runs until the end of the month. I saw a guy buying a few to resell as well.

I’ve just had bmw on call come out and the tech said that the discovery units are POS and t of their call outs for batteries are related to these units.

Currently using cartrack on my X5 and X3 and this will be the third time that they need to replace the tracking devices, and two battery replacements on both vehicles.

What do the others on forum use and recommend?

I have Tracker (Connect, I think) and Netstar Early Warning. Netstar gave some battery issues on the F30. Its a total POS as a product, app, etc.

No issues at all with Tracker.
