Here's my newly acquired 320d. 2011.

Got her with 31 100km and exactly one year old.

Nice

how do you rate it compared to the E90 323 you had?

levels of refinement:
The LCI is in generally a more softer car than the pre-LCI and the bigger mags with lower profile tyres does not make it more harsh, as some would think.

power and dynamics:
It is excellent. It has far more torque than the 323i and 5kW more power. I do notice that.
We obliterate hills and overtake like mad men! :)

fuel consumption:
Excellent! (6.3l/100km ON URBAN driving!)

Conclusion:
It is an upgrade from the 323i.

negatives:
no xenons.
no storage package (rear cupholders, seat nets, trunk lashing points)
no footwell and passenger reading lights
no electronic oil level sensing

positives:
better sound system
extra ground clearance
auto dim mirror
sunroof
17" mags
and of course: 4 years of Motorplan.

Was thoroughly impressed with the E90 320d LCI that I had for a day earlier this year - really a great machine!!!

So it has a dipstick? I cannot imagine any scenario where this is a negative...

Yep, at least they have a proper dipstick! But not having an electronic dipstick when you are use to it can be a bit strange - I check mine everytime I drive since this is my way to ensure that the engine is up to temperature. Takes a lot longer to get an oil level reading in the E90 than it takes the temperature gauge in an E46 to show normal operating temperature, so reckon it is safe to use this as a rough guide.

It is an indication that the oil is at proper operating viscosity. Especially with a diesel. Also, the E90 does not have a heat gauge. So how else can you reference engine temperature?

Also, I got used to it in the 6-cyl. I love the gizmo's and gadgets.

That's what struck me with the 320d that I drove, absolutely no way to determine if the engine is up to temperature, and diesels take a lot longer to warm up. I wonder if the E90 diesels also have the electric heater to assist the heating up of coolant that flows through the interior heater - something that the E46 320d has as far as I remember. Then in winter you can put the heater on which will then speed up the warming up process instead of slowing it down on regular cars where you are then taking the heat away from the engine to warm up the interior...
