320 d issues

Hi all. Just picked my new to me 320d on Friday the 11th of November. My Jetta TDI broke down and I needed a car asap so I opted for a diesel beemer. Car has a noise coming from the gearbox which I am pretty sure is the dmf . Also the car has what I can only describe as a slight hesitation or stumble between 1500 and 2000 rpm . I had the car read for codes and it came up with glow plugs and a rail pressure fault. These were intermittent faults so I had them erased and will have to check if any come back. Changed out the wheels for new 17,s and new tyres. Car rides great and has decent power.

Was wondering if anybody on here has swopped to a smf setup and if so would they recommend the swop?
Any ideas on the stumble issue ?.
From what I have read online these cars have the dreaded swirl flaps as well.
Is this correct for a 2007 320d manual ?
Any ideas on where I can get a space saver spare wheel besides the steelers?

So many questions but I will reserve the rest for another post.

Thanks guys

Welcome!

What is a SMF setup? Never heard of it, and Google gave no results?

For the space saver, keep an eye on Gumtree and OLX.

DMF = Dual Mass Flywheel
SMF: Single Mass flywheel.

With the SMF you can expect flywheel clatter...other than that - faster rev up!

Hi Randy, take those swirl flaps out as soon as possible. I recently bought a 2005/6 E60 530d and took the inlet manifold off to remove the swirl flaps. One of the flaps had already broken off and was stuck in the inlet manifold, ready to enter the engine. Caught it just in time. My advice is: get them out as soon as possible for peace of mind. Also, clean the egr and plug its vacuum supply so that it does not function and also, get rid of the cat. Just my 2c

Anyone besides ebay, selling the swirl flaps delete plates? I also need to do mine. m47 engine. Only thing I have done to the car is egr delete by removing the vacume pipe so the valve kept shut!

Theres also a video about removing the flap part of the swirl falps and keep the rod and associated parts. This means there will be nothing to fall into the intake and the rod goes from end to end and is metal so it wont break.

We did that on one car but we will remove the rod and fit screws in the holes. I saw one flap break the rod. Where the tiny screws go through the rod is also a weak point. The most cost effective way is putting screws and plenty Q bond on the outide to secure.

Yes, that was also done, you have to put a screw in that place and glue it.
