Hi im new on the forum but had bm's my whole life. I currently have a 330i 2003 and honda crv(wife's car). It's getting expensive on the school run.
She want to trade it in for either a 320d 2003/4 or a 330d 2002/4.

I've only heard shocking story's of injector's on a 330d failing and the guy had to replace his motor and it was never the same again. And alot of 320d turbo fails.

So the question is will it be a good idea to sell the honda and buy potential problems?

So any advice would be welome.

Avoid the 320d. Get a 2004/2005 6 speed manual 330d and remove the swirl flaps immediately. (I suspect that is what happened to your friend - swirl flaps sucked in.)

Is the 320d's problem children? Cos she has a 2003 320d motorsport in eye. Has about 120k on the clock with fsh

What engine does the CRV have??
I wouldn't trade it for a 3 series, cause I think in the CRV there is more space, and also the wife rides high up in traffic.
Maybe take the CRV and have it chipped to maybe get the feul economy better?? :dunno:

That is realy not a a bad idea and it has a 2.0 vtech engine cos currently it gives 8km/l in town and 10km/l on the open road and that is not good at all

I would seriously think about keeping it, trust me. Dont know how big your kid/kids are, but you are going to need the space.
On the forum there are some forum sponsors that do Chips, and I really think with the right software, you will be able to get those figures better.
The CRV's are great cars, and I seriously think keeping it is the best option here... for now at least, but its your car, your money.

If you could go up to say R170k on the purchase price, you could get into a neat E90 320d, that might even still have some motorplan left.

That's a broad statement - How about a bit more detail?

Not at all, my dad sold his 04 330d manual to a friend of his with 205000km, its now got 245000km on, still going strong, still on original turbo and injectors! So the advice is go with models that guys with experiance know are reliable as P1000 has stated, the 04/05 330d manual is an awesome car and super reliable if maintained correctly, just follow the tips which are given and the 330d will be just as reliable as your Honda.

Friend of mine has a 2002 330d with 380 000 km on the dials (e46) and it did not explode yet. Does not use oil and still pulls strong.
Diesels don't explode when out of motorplan.

I would not go for the 320d (e46) which were prone to turbo problems. Looks like it was fixed on the 320d e90.

330d FTW.

So why a 04/05 330d manual and not the auto? cos had a test drive in a 330d auto and that felt like the sh*t it's almost like in my school day's only watched porn and saw doggy style didn't know what it was but knew it was the sh*t:joy:.

And my friend has a 320d e90 140k on the clock and had no probs at all

The automatic gearbox is a GM made in France and it WILL give you trouble at some stage (if you keep the car long enough). The 6 speed has the updated engine, which is more similar to the engine in the E90 than the other e46's, with 150kw and lots of modding capacity. The gearbox is also the same as the E90 IIRC, and can handle a lot more punishment than the 5 speed. Oh, and don't even think about modding with an autobox, it is already pushed beyond the manufacturers torque specs...
