318 stalled again doesn't start

Driving home today my beemer died on me, tried to start it but nothing sounds like its about to start but then nothing. Petrol fumes galore then. Waited 5mins then tried again but same result. Wants to start and even does start but then dies. What could this be? Had to tow it home with my wifes citroen!!! Moerse imbarrasing.. Don't think its the fuel pump or could it be? Or maybe fuel filter? Any help would be appreciated. No warning lights on.:argh:

crank shaft sensor
cam shaft sensor

similar symptoms I had on my Diesel E39 530d, in my case cam sensor changed, 7 years later still happily starting

worth investigating

Try starting the car tomorrow morning again, if it starts and idles fine then i agree with Ralf sounds like either crank or cam shaft sensors are acting up.

Quite a scary experience having a car die on you while driving. :argh:
