Had the same issue with my 316 the lifters made a noise at start up for the first 5 min and then sort off faded thereafter.

If it keeps making the noise i.o.w. if it is continuous its due to the oil not reaching the parts maybe add an oil additive. Liqui Moly have a good one called "Engine Tappet Stop Noise".

There could be numerous reasons for the noise but ill put my money on the lifters.

One could be wear on the crank bearing... Mite also be a Engine Mounting. Found this issue also.

Depends on where the sound originates if it is from the lifters the sound will be from the top.

The lifters get clogged in this case u can change them. Mite also be that the Oil Pump does not work properly sending oil to the engine or its on its way out.

I also recommend you change your oil you use in the engine.

Keep us posted. Like i said this was the issues on my e36 316I.

Step 1 would be to determine where the noise is coming from.

Good Luck.

Hey guys....

I put new oil Shell Helix 20w 50

I don't know weather its the right oil to use?

Which oil is the best?

The noise is coming from the top of the head so it is the lifters.

Where can I get that "Engine Tappet Stop Noise".from??

Im willing to try stuff before I go spend R3500....

Im with dippies on this one.

As for what type of oil, imo i dont think there is a right or a wrong, yes there might be a good and bad but each to his own, i had castrol gtx high millage in my car and got told its crap, sovwent over to castrol magnatec with the last oil change, but i havent noticed a difference thus far.

As for the noise you are hearing i have it on my 318i as well. But is only there fpr a few seconds after starting the car. So keep us updated.

I called mega spares nw in centurion...

They have something that thickens the oil and its R70

Probably something like Prolong.

I dnt knw weather to try that and see if it will work.

the noise on my car doesn't stop....its annoying:yuck:

Hi guys

It was not the lifters that was making the noise....

Its kinda stupid....

It was the aircon unit that was loose and was hitting against the block....

Mechanic jus put 2 new bolts and the car is silent!!!:bravo:

TREVORS AUTO CLINIC- Top Mechanic, he knows hes cars!!!

Saved me R2500 which another mechanic suppose to charge me when it wasn't even the lifters....

Its Difficult to diagnose the Problem without inspecting the car and only go by with what noise its making without hearing the noise.
