3 Series vs X1

Hi Guys,
Me and the wife just found out that she is expecting our first, and we are offcoarse very glad!
The 320d is an awesome car, but in a few months when she is bigger, she will find it difficult getting in and out, because it is tight and very low...
I want to get something bigger now, and the guys from BMW told me to have a look at the X1.
Now I want to know is the X1 bigger than the 3?
If you could choose would you keep the 3 or get the X1?
I dearly want an X3, but at this stage budget just won't allow.
What would you do?

My 2 cents, I would keep the 3. I sat in the X1. Its not much higher. The cabin felt a bit cramped. The only plus is the boot. Keep the 3, enjoy her and when you are ready get the X3 35i !!

First things first,
Congrats to you and the vrou. They are truly a bundle of joy, also brings the family closer.

When we found out we were going to have a kid, i was driving a Golf 4, long story short, Sold the Golf and bought my E90 320d.

Best move i ever made, and with that comes a family of friends on this forum.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your 3 Series bud. We had a Graco pram, and this thing is massive, fits perfectly in the boot.

I say the only time its going to get small is when another kid comes along or when you have to start carting bikes around.

Congrats on the baby , and my brother had an X1 for a few days and I think :

X1 , nice drive , especially the 2.0d with the sport pack . Hi ride , compared to 3 series , drives well for a truck , cheap feel to the interior though , slightly ugly . More space at the back I think .

I also say, keep the 3. Not worth the change of vehicles to an X1, you'll lose out on the 3 to step into a somewhat cheapish looking crossover with only marginally more space. Different case if it were in comparison to an X3.

Being a veteran parent (5 kids) and having faced the same predicament I will say that the X1 is not the car for you. The 3 series will easily tend to all your needs for at least the first three years of baby's life and lifestyle requirements (pram etc.)

Should you really want to change then maybe rather look at the previous shape X3 2.0D Xdrive as a value for money option...

The outcome seems obvious, like I thought it's gonna be!
I am still looking at an X3, just wanna find a good one!
Does somebody maybe no someone from a BMW dealership that will give me some help?
The people I am working with doesn't seem to want to!!

If you really want a new car, go for a 530d it's bigger, faster, safer and more comfy :rollsmile:

x1 has the same space as inside e90 ,only difference is the boot is bigger,slightly,and this i was told by bmw them self's

personally,i find it higher than the e90 and easier to get into than the e90,and i was thinking of getting one as well,reminds me of the wifes navara,easy to get into.when my wife was pregnant had a jetta,space wasnt a problem but getting in and out was

driving it,dont know as i havent driven one yet.

so yes i say get it.but at the end of the day its your choice:thumbs:
