I raced at Amsterdam which I believe is 1300m above sea level managed 12.8 and 220 on the 800m. I thought it was really a bad speed.

Yes which car? The Z4M only managed 222kmh at ODI 1km which I thought was respectable and at tarlton around 14.0 with street tyres.

Wow! That must have been some treat! Thanks for the post Joe - it is pretty interesting to see the differences between the generations/models. That new M5 is a monster!

Got side tracked while posting but here it is.
I was given a 2014 M5 to take to the track and see what i could get out of it on the Km.I was also joined by the M6 V10 that was fully modified and that there is a thread on but it is always nice to compare vehicles at the same time so that the track and weather conditions are equal. The third M was a pristine M3 V8 2010 model and probably the last of BMW's normal aspirated vehicles.
Altitude 1501mts
MB 854
Temp 24.5 degrees
Before i test a vehicle i prepare it with 10% ethanol mix and check tyre pressures.
The track is 15km away so i did adaption runs in third gear on the way there and it became very apparent that adaption was taking place. On the first adapt you could feel the car was not happy above 6500rpm.On the second adapt this feeling went up to 6800rpm and after the third adapt the car was revving smoothly to 7100rpm.
I don't see the point of testing a car's capabilities if it is not fit.
A point of caution though for the normal aspirated guys do not overdo the ethanol as the V10 M6 found out.He added 20% and dropped off 4km/h on his km exit speed compared to previously.
The M3 V8 figures were a bit disappointing here at the highveld and i believe will definately be another animal at the coast. The launch control on this car was also set way too high and the 60ft times appalling. What you lose here is gone.
The launch control was not activated yet on the M5 and the times on the 60ft will get much better when that happens. On M1 setting the car had a lag of 0.31sec and on M2 setting 0.24sec.
This car was a first to run cutout before the Km trap and did a true 255km/h with the heads up display reading 264km/h.This speed was achieved at 954mts and i had to keep the car in the limit to make sure the limit speed was registered at the km.
.....................M5...............................................M3
60ft..............2.62secs.........55km/h..............2.81sec........49km/h
1/8mile.........8.40secs.........157km/h............9.56sec........133km/h
1/4mile........12.42secs........197km/h............14.29sec.......169km/h
800mts........18.86secs........242km/h............21.79sec.......208km/h
1km............21.75secs........255km/h............25.14sec.......222km/h
0-100km/h.....4.52 secs...............................6.29sec
0-200km/h.....12.69secs..............................19.95sec
80-120km/h....2.18secs...............................3.39sec

Fuel consumption round trip plus test 17litres/100km. (M5)
Fuel consumption at 100km/h 9.2litres/100km. (M5)

The F10 M5 is a well balanced top class car and at no point was i intimidated by it and is so easy to drive i think grandma can do her shopping in it.The adrenalin will do her good. :biglol:
Thank you to the owner for the opportunity. :ty:
These M cars really spell out the logo " JOY ".
80-120km/h
