2017- BMW involved in an accident

Hi Guys. Needed some advise. I was looking at a BMW for sale from a BMW dealer. The car is about R50k to R70k cheaper than what they are going for. The dealer told me the car was involved in a small front smash (right front headlight, front bumper and grill). The motor-plan is still valid as the dealer says it was repaired at a BMW approved dealer. I have not inspected the car to confirm the quality of the repair. Im two minded if I should proceed? Thanks

If you are unsure , walk away already..

on the other hand go and inspect it for yourself, try and get contact details of previous owner and ask them just how bad the accident was..
if it was a really minor smash and repaired 100% you could be saving 50k-70k as you state.

I wouldn’t bother.

There will be a comment on the system against that car which will have to be explained to potential buyers if you one day decide to sell that car. This will inevitably end up in back and forth negotiations and could mean you get offered a lot less when compared to similar cars than you are saving now.

Inspect it then decide. Not all accidents are catastrophic.

I agree with the above:thumbs:...

I would only think about it (provided that the work done on the car is off a high standard) is if the savings are quite substantial...(+100k saving).

Side Note: Its common practice for all BMW approved workshops (ARCs) to take photographs of the vehicle when it comes in as well as a video of the car...there is also a detailed report which you should be able to get from the ARC:thumbs:

Hmm - catch 22. Save some money now, but lose it tomorrow (when you decide to sell).

Personally, I'd pass on this one. But it would be nice to do your homework around it. Perhaps you'd learn a thing or two which will help you buy your next vehicle.

I've had two bad experiences with BMW thus far:

1. E90 had 3 'cosmetic smashes' - which weren't declared. Realized this when I went for an evaluation on the car and I was told that the VIN has been used for insurance claims (at the time I was looking to trade).

2. F30 was accident damaged, stolen and recovered and we only realized this upon trade in about two years later. Hard to believe that this came off the dealerships floor.

Good luck. Hope you make the right choice

Nope.. Walk away.. You will be taking the knock of an accident damage comment and no matter how you spin it the next dealer will give you much lower trade in.

Assume we talking 3 series, so also keep in mind the new G series 3er will hit the shores soon then F series values will tank even more, not the best time to be buying IMO..
