Have this humming/droning noise when going over 80kms/h on a smooth road. Below 80 it is quiet and above about 90 also quiet. I did replace the left front wheel bearing about 30k kms ago. Any one with a similar problem and if so, how did you solve it? Tires are Michelin Primacy 4 and have about 5,5mm tread left all round. Have swopped them accross so the tires run in the opposite direction, no change at all!

Hi,
Had the same issue about 4 months back. Turned out to be the rear wheel bearing. The exact symptoms you explain is what I experienced.

I had the same problem on my F30. Turns out one of the plastic covers underneath the engine was loose on the front left corner. One ziptie later and the drone was gone.  :roflol:

We replaced the right rear wheel bearing but the noise was still present. Then yesterday we did the left rear wheel bearing and noise is gone! R1800 per side labour and material. Wheelbearing was R1150 and labour R650 per side.

was that at BMW?
Last time I bought a wheel bearing at BMW was R400 (approx) two sides R800

Anyways good news you are sorted!

Wat car was that as the wrong bearing was provided at first which was about R425 but that was without the hub outer. The F25 rear wheel bearing comes complete with the hub part which is why it is R1k plus vat.
