Maybe they programmed that way to adapt to your driving.

It does adapt, I have felt the same with my e60, gets 'lazy' if you drive it too slow, almost like..., nah i aint dropping a gear, i can accelerate just fine in this gear, but after some spirited driving even in D, i notice the gear changes are different.

I found a process on the net to reset the adaptation on the e60, it livens up the gear changes, but eventually adapts to your driving style.

(Apparently)
some the dealership do this when doing your service to make you believe theres a difference after a service

My gearbox actually does feel harsh too if I can put is like that.. in sport it jerks the car when shifting manually.. I shall go harass them for a SW update too!

+1 mine does this aswell, 2011 320D..After driving it abit hard it tends to gear down aggressively in auto at the slightest increase in acceleration....thought it was normal ...sometimes feels like it going into 2nd gear from 4th

I believe it has a kickdown based on acclerator position, in auto mine also shifts down 2 gears to get the revs climbing but what mine does while I shift up under hard acceleration is 'knock' the car if I can put it like that. When I bought it this was not the case, on the first service BMW updated my SW and the car came back more responsive but with this 'kick' when you shift up.. nothing has gone wrong yet so I guess it's normal..

I recognise that dealership's parking area - they won't even see my electric lawnmower, ever! :fencelook:
