2009 BMW 320d E90 Weird Service Light Behavior

Hi all,

I’m new to the forums and have some strange behavior with my 320D service lights. So I decided to register and hope someone can shed some light on the topic.

A few weeks ago my brake pad service light lit up so I booked the car for a service. However a few days later this light disappeared. I can sort of understand this as the vehicle is able to determine how many “brake pad” is left. So I just cancelled the service.

However what worries me is that the service count down timer stood at 2000kms. The cars last oil service was on 37000kms and it currently has 50000kms on the clock. So it makes sense. 50k-37k+2k equals a standard 15k oil service interval.

But what happened was that this count down timer suddenly increased from 2000kms to 8000kms.

This means if I drive out the 8000kms it currently says, the car would have done 21000kms since it’s last service.

Now my question is, is this normal? I took the BMW and they said they can’t service the car and that I should wait and see what happens over the next few hundred kms.

Hope someone can shed some light.

Thanks!

The E90 calculate service intervals by the way you drive. Do not be concerned about it. As long as you service (Oil) the car yearly or every 15K -20K km you will not have a problem.

Mite also be a sensor error (brakes) .

Your car possibly needs to be recoded, I had the same issue but mine was just with the brake service indicator  dealer recoded and all was fine.....
