Hi Im new here! I dont own a BMW but I am consdering one.

Ive been doing some research and it seems the 330D is a bloody amazing package.Plenty of performance and what I would consider a very comfortable daily driver.

Around Killarney it proved to only be 1.4 seconds slower than the 135i. Bear in mind the 330d doesnt come with ugpraded sports suspension like the 135i.Its also only 0.5 seconds slower 0-100 than the 135i. Not bad for a diesel.

Also its a helluva more economical than the 135i.

Im curious what you guys make of the 330d.

Also I heard a chip and tune can get you to over 180wkw and over 600nm torque. Who offers these tuning expertise? Being a JDM man myself Im a little wet behind the ears when it comes to BMW.lol

Any advice appreciated. :ty:

Well....

How shall we start to answer this....

Buy the frikken diesel and get it over and done with

My personal opinion, the only thing better then a 3l BMW diesel are the BMW V8's, and I have owned two of each.

Im doing 160 odd Kw with 625 Nm with only a bit of software, no other mods what so ever.

Rumour has it that there are a few BMW diesels doing over 700Nm with some fiddling...

The M57N motors are absolutely epic, they are reliable, if looked after, are bullet proof as well.

The only small thing, as with any vehicle pushing out such huge power, is the auto gearbox's tend to go poof.

If you can get a 330d in manual, buy it :)

If not, they are still awesome, but I would limit the mods that you do to it

Sounds like good advice. I think I could live with 160wkw. All that torque should put you close to the m3 v8 from a stnadstill??

Where did you get yours tuned? Are there ways and means to do software and retain motorplan?

With regards to motorplan and the tune, no there is not.

Well, top end there is no contest, your butt will be kicked, but you will do it in half of the consumption.

Out the line, its all relative, favouring the //M, but....

Hey bud, if you looking at an '09 model, that will be the lci with the 180kw motor. All I can say is, you will not be disappointed!! They are absolutely awesome! My old man drives one and I've taken it on a couple of our midnight runs after I sold my E39 M5, and now I'm buying one as well! Never thought driving a diesel could be that much fun!:joy: His is stock standard and it runs like a monster!

Thanks bro. Yeah Ive only heard great things about it. Given todays fuel crises I dont see the point of wasting money on fuel for a car that is marginally faster.

+1

The only thing that comes close to the 3.0d is the V8.

Hi, Welcome to the forum

I own a 330d Auto. The car is epic. so easy to cruise at high speed with low consumption, but put the foot down and the car turns into a monster.

mine is a 2005 version putting out 198kw and 593nm torque. that 2009 version outputs 180kw stock, so that would be even more of a monster with a tune.

p.s. Driving a bmw is a far departure from JDM. You will love the ride... even if is a 320d.

Gonna be tough to trump my 9000RPM Turbo S2000..

But Ive grown up a little now I guess.

Ill always be a JDM fan and I still want to do my Supra build but for daily drive BMW is a great car. No denying that.

Awesome car :), u will be very happy :inlove:

I have the LCi

Thanks bro.Everyone seems to rave about them. Havent come across a person with any negatives yet.

Just a queation of manual vs auto??

Im leaning towards a manual cause I like to manage my revs. And I heard the autoboxes are weaker?

0.5sec slower than a 135i? Thats not bad for a for size family vehicle + Diesel.
Then again price wise both are very close in terms of pricing

Diesel really works well with an autobox (well actually any turbo), but if you think you prefer manual, avoid auto. (they all break at some point, they have a much shorter design life than a manual box, and its life is less driving-style dependent)

I have the Auto box, just put into DS :joy: These autoboxes r pretty strong...

I heard the the manual box can't take the mods n higher torque...

Guys on an average day average dyno what does the LCI 330D make on the wheels power wise? On the fly its 180kw. I would think around 150wkw??

Anybody with dyno proof. Thanks.

Not too worried about torque it makes plenty of that.lol

my pre lci 330d made 141wkw on the tunetech dyno.

i think that Arbees made 140wkw at the KAR dyno.

the lci 330d is 10kw more than the pre lci, so i think that 150kw is a realistic number.
