If anyone can help. I can reset the lighys but they come back after driving. I reset the SAS to get rid of the error. Is it the SAS or the Tranfer case-actuator motor. I have a disk pad warning light on all the time, can that cause the problem.

The E83 is known for transfer case issues.

Regarding the brake wear warning light - Either you need new brakes OR the brake bad sensor was not replaced when new brakes were fitted. It could also be that the sensor is not fitted properly. The sensor is not a re usable item, and a new one needs to be fitted after every brake pad change.

Most likely the transfer case actuator motor where the plastic gear stripped. You can buy replacement gears from ebay and the like.

I have a spare new plastic/nylon gear if you need one. Where are you based? Also, mileage of the car? Are the tires on the car the same all round and have they about the same tread depth as this also has an effect on the transfer case wear. Does the car make grinding noises when turning which could be the transfer case. If so, you can get under the car and unplug the electrical plug on the transfer case and drive with it like that no problem. Have been driving mine like that for a year now and even my old X3 drove that about two years like that before i sold it. No problem at all except you do not have four wheel drive but only the rear wheels are driven. Otherwise no real difference in driving between two and four wheel drive.

HI and thanks for reply.
When the lights come on I can reset them by going a SAS recalibration. I have also noticed that when I turn sharp to the left lights sometimes come on. If I reverse in the opposite direction I can sometimes reset the lights. Is it possible that the Steering Angle Sensor is faulty. I have listened for noises when turning but can't hear anything. Tyres are new and the wheel speed sensors seem to be working properly.
Thanks
Dave

Difficult to say what it is. First would have a look at the disc pad sensors. One on the left front and rear back wheel iirc. See if the pads are still nice and thick. If not, could be the wear sensors touching the disc and causing the light on the dash. Does the car drive ok without slight jerk? What is the mileage? Also, where do you live?

Hi
Have noticed that the disk pad sensors have been removed - must be why the light is on (have only recently bought the car.
Car drives perfectly no jerking mileage is 212,000kms.
