2007/2008 X5 3.0D

So in the quest to not get kicked out by my wife, who wants more space, and in my quest to keep my rear end on the seat of a BMW, I came to start looking at the X5. (7 seats preferably)

I found two a 2007 and 2008 models, 98 000km and 117 000km. What do I need to look out for with these, and how well build are they compared to my limited experience to the 3 series, which is build very well and bullet proof.

I doubt it will be used daily, as I dont need all that space for wok and back.

We have a 35d that's used daily. Has never skipped a beat since we got it at 25,000kms. They are solid cars when looked after, plenty go as well.

Tires are very costly, especially those 315s at the rear.

Dont know too much about these... Rear air suspension bags can be problematic I believe

This was prone to the E53, but I'm not too sure about the E70. I haven't seen many reported problems of them at all.

Tyres definitely very expensive.

The 2 rear seats in the E70 aren't of much use though, suitable for toddlers I think.

Thanks. Going to look at this one this weekend, if the rear two seats is not suitable, will drop the idea.

Beautiful cars. Had mine a year now and am really happy with her. No major issues - touch wood . Done a recent 2000km trip and performed very well in wet & dry. She averaged 12.6km/l. She's very stable at speed in heavy rain - which surprised me. Apart from problem with the sunroof, glovebox lid peeling off & some water in the inner tail lights which I will sort out this weekend by replacing with new gaskets http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=54184 (all minor gripes) she's been a joy to own thus far. Mine has standard tyres fitted - not run flats. I sourced a spare wheel & kit for her to take care of any punctures. Bear in mind though that if you opt for the 7 seats you cannot have a spare wheel & kit as there won't be space for it. She's got plenty of grunt when you need it - especially when overtaking.

The tyres is not that serious, got mine for R9500 for four 20's, as long as they are not RFT, lucky mine got an emergency spare option. Excellent cars

I have a 7-seater E70.

The 3-rd row seats on the E70 are only good for small kids (no normal teenager will fit in there). Make sure the car has the dual zone climate control with separate controls for the rear, else the kids in the 3-rd will suffocate.

Whatever other options the car has, STAY AWAY from the sports pack on the E70 unless you want to replace the fillings in your teeth on a weekly basis. Try to stay with 18" or 19" rims max. The RFT's are much cheaper than on 20's.

There is no spare wheel option on the 7-seater, so you are stuck with RFT's.

Only the 4.8i V8's came with rear air suspension. They are much more reliable on the E70 than on the earlier E53 models. I had to replace one rear airbag at 160000km, very easy DIY and not too expensive.

Thanks. I went to look at one, and decided to can the idea. Those 3rd row seats are good for people with no legs, even my 9 and 11 year old kids was not comfy at all.
