Hi All,

Newbie on the forum and loving my beast. I'm a former Alfa driver, so that should say a lot.

Can someone please tell me which engine oil I should put in my 2006 550.
Sorry if this question has been asked a lot. Can't find answers anywhere. Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong place.
Oil cap says castrol. Can someone with a 550i give some advice please?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Might be a good plan to post an intro in the meantime as well as some more about your car! And we love car pics!

I am sure someone will have a concise answer, but I would think normal 5W30 LL01, so Castrol Magnatec Professional for example, but there are lots of other options with the same required spec.

Thanks Philip, will do the intro. I need to add a litre in the next 150 km. Just wanted to give her the correct stuff.

Cheers,
Ziggy

If you adding oil you should idealy put in what is already in there... when it comes service time you can change to a different oil if you want to

I sell Liquimoly  a very good oil with the right BMW approvals for your car

Yep! As Moranor said, best for now is to find out from the dealer that last serviced your car what oil was used, and then top up with exactly the same.

Welcome bud, how is the consumption on the 550i

Consumption on the highway is brilliant! In town less so, but it compares evenly to my 2.5 V6 Alfa 156, which was around 14 - 17.5 l/100km. So the Alfa got me used to it. In fact I get around 13 - 14 l/100 (indicated) with sensible town driving.
Drive it like a loon and it guzzles it down at a considerable rate

I agree though, if you're worried about fuel consumption look elsewhere.

Zig, SPECIALLY for cars like your model, please, please order your cheaper service parts from BMW, they really are cheap and do not rip anyone off on service parts  They might charge R10 more per litre of oil, if that, then a local shop that may sell you the wrong one and costs you R100k's in the future. Spark plugs/air filter/oil filter, just grab it from the dealer. You can grab it at the local shops for literally a couple rand cheaper, but in my opinion is that even worth it ? :=):

Learnt that here on the forums!

There are other things you can do, e.g look at the parts on
http://www.g-drive.co.za/
and they are generally oem replacement parts, and go buy them at your local shops. But really, BMW dealers are not expensive at all on service items :=):

Only pollen filters for the aircon are over priced
