Let’s get straight to it, no banging I mean beating around her bush.
The want and need for a manual straight-six Beemer had been knocking on my door for a while. It was going to be a toy so I didn’t want to spend copious amounts of money to satisfy this craving. I browsed the interwebs in search for said toy. Saw and drove some 135s, Z3s, E46 330s (one of them was spec’d really well but the interior looked like it was used by a bunch of hookers from Tijuana to carry out their business dealings, @Bugger may have been there 😝). Also not forgetting that 325ci that had a visit to the barbershop (owned by a SAPS Officer), seems like he’s protecting and swerving instead of serving.
Some 2 or 3 weeks ago a Titan Silver 2005 325ci Manual with 167k km popped up on my screen. I knew I had to have it and was immediately smitten, more than the first time I saw my wife. If she ever reads this: you know I love you (a tad less than my cars). The catch: the car was 700km away in some random town that I haven’t even heard of prior to this. Thankfully I found someone who was going that way and was able to view the car for me.
A lemon it was not. Not perfect but quite decent for its age.
Flight booked and off I went.. Oh wait, the night before my flight I was hunting for blank CDs like a junkie searching for Crack. CDs burned and I was gone.
I viewed the car and loved it. I test drove it, and the memories of driving my father’s E46 325i manual “Sport-Pack” back in 2001 flooded in. The car has an obnoxiously loud after-market exhaust which will be in the trash soon.
I was somewhat wary and sceptical to drive a 20-year old BMW back to Durban but YOLO. The drive back was fun and uneventful. I will definitely be getting a call from the previous owner before Mr Plod starts knocking on his door.
A 20-year old BMW not previously owned by @AdiS or @M3boi will definitely have its flaws. It needs some work to get it back to its former glory. A bit of sagging hood-lining, bumper and wheel respray along with some other cosmetic items will be attended to in the coming weeks.
A huge thanks goes out to our resident expert @Riaad for his advice and steering me away from potential lemons, @Coisman for his background checks and @FISAACS for immediately sliding into me DMs and offering me some Ci items after seeing my pic.
Some E46 Ci porn..
