2005 330i Water Pump

Hi all,

My brother-in law's 2005 330i manual water pump has failed. This is the second one within about 18 months. He suspects he bought a "dud" to begin with as it didn't resolve his battery running flat issue. If he disconnects the pump and leaves it then the battery doesn't run flat.

He is from Dbn and I'm in Jhb but I am going down on Thursday so I wouldn't mind taking him one down if I can source a reasonably priced one.

Anyone here can assist, maybe even a second hand one?

get a Hepu one from Goldwagen... they cost in the region of about R550~R600


the impeller is made of light metal, and has a lower rotating mass, i previously ran the Metal weighted Meyle pump, which is also good, but due to an unseen leak, i decided to just replace the pump during the cooling system overhaul

E46 or E90?

Could be either E46 or E90.

E46 will be mechanical and @Spiro is spot on with the price.

Id E90, I think it takes and electrical pump which is much more.

Try Goldwagen, if electrical, don't buy 2nd hand...

If the battery is running flat wouldn't the problem be a sensor?

did not read the fine print... if E90 then electric water pump.... so rather Diag the car first...

if e46... then Mechanical... Hepu route...

I assume E90 as it is killing the battery, a mechanical waterpump would not do that

should be about R1200 for the waterpump,

I recently called goldwagen and the E46 330i waterpump was around R700

My thoughts exactly, the E90 N52 pump is +/- R4000 , R8000 + VAT from Agents

Apologies for the delayed response.
It is an E90, I have been told that they did run diagnostics before and picked up nothing (I'm unsure about the integrity of the diagnostics though)

I have a second hand N52 water pump available. Was mistakenly replaced by BMW in their hit and miss diagnostic approach. Vehicle had done just over 105 000kms.
