Hey guys

An opportunity has just presented itself in the form of low mileage (<120k) superclean 2004 330i M Sport 6spd manual:rollsmile: Now I've made the seller an offer of 115k which I feel is more than reasonable. He hasn't accepted, but is willing to discuss the price issue. He's asking 130k. I'm willing to push my offer up by another 5k, but I'm not sure if that would be the financially sensible thing to do as I've got to take into account other costs of purchasing the car as well.

The car is an excellent example of 'showroom condition', but the seller also made me aware of a minor collision where the front bumper and shock absorber was replaced and hail damage to the passengers side, both of which were repaired by a bmw approved panel beater. The seller has had the powersteering pump and LCA's done. Next service is due in 5000km. Motorplan expired last year.

I gave up looking for an E46 a few months back after not having much luck and been searching for E90's until this came along. My heart is telling me to go for it, and brain is telling me not to rush:biglol:

Please advise:=):

What is the trade, book & retail value of the car ? I normally look at those figures before I buy because of insurance.

That being said, scarcity = high price, so I would buy it :)

I'm not sure what the exact values are, but last time I checked the trade and retail on a 2003 330i Individual was 103 trade and 110 retail. The 'minor collision' aspect is also the primary reason for me not offering the guy his full asking price. I've requested that he provide me with a comprehensive insurance/repair report on the damages and then I'll take it from there.

As I said my heart is telling me to take this car even if it's sold at a premium on condition that everything checks out whilst the brain is pleading with me to be sensible about it:biglol:

Your offer is a bit low - 120k minimum. That does depend on the overall condition of the car though.

LoL I can see you an Indian, Guji perhaps :)

Yeah the only thing that sounds off is that so-called "minor collision", good on you for requesting a damage report. Other then that, if retail on a 2003 model is 110k, then R130k seems reasonable for a 2004 with low mileage....

Spot on:rollsmile:

I feel that 130k is the absolute max for an E46 regardless of condition, mileage etc. and even then it's what I would expect a dealer to ask. 130k upwards is entering E90 territory. Will push my offer up to 120k if everything is satisfactory. By the way, what would a service cost? He said the next service is due in 5000km which I'll cover easily in 1.5months.

Retail on a 2004 e46 330i 6 speed is around R122k. If the car is in prestine condition, I would offer what he was asking.

Rather spend a bit more on a car that has been looked after than having to spend more on fixing it later on. just my 2c

Well, I bought mine for R140k, but the mileage and condition made it well worth it for me.

Considering how difficult it is to find a low mileage, good condition Msport 6 speed manual, I would go for it.

PICS?!?!??!

Just got a valuation report from transunion. Trade is between 95-99 and retail is 106-112. Surprising how fast these values are dropping:nonono: It wasn't more than 2 months back when I got similar values on a 2003. I do realise that these values merely serve as guide and that the value is dependent on demand, but I don't think the values should deviate too extremely from whats in the book...

Will try to post some pics sometime this weekend

I got offered a swap for my hyundai I20 2011 1.4 auto for a 330i individual, I did some homework these values are dropping, a dealer friend said that he would pay nothing more than R90k for a clean 330i, the value of my I20 is R130k, so I would have taken a crack immediately. If you gona keep this car for a long time, its definitely worth it, as far as structural repairs, even new cars are sometimes repaired before they get sold, thats not a major concern, but do pull an accident report, R130k is e90 territory currently, a beautifully balanced car in all aspects:thumbs:
