2002 E46 330d won't start

Guys, sold my son's car to a guy about 2 months ago. Car was in excellent condition. About two weeks ago car started showing following symptoms. Car would sometimes refuse to start. Starter would swing the engine but car won't start. Mecchie replaced the diesel filter but did not make a difference. Battery also gone flat from trying to get it to run. Mecchie charged battery. Now car has gone dead and will not start at all. Starter turns engine but will not start. Had my diagnostics on the car and it shows "DDE Pre-supply pressure monitoring" and the code that comes up is 1260 and the part number is 7789376 which seems to be "Basic DDE control unit". Any advice or solutions to the problem? Btw, car never gave a moments problems/trouble before sale!

Had the same problem with my E90 320i, mine died at a traffic light & the problem was water damage to the DME. Assuming that you are in Joburg, you could try some of these.

E46 doesn't usually have the ecu flooding problem as E90. Have a look at the lift fuel pump in the tank or low pressure pump under the seat by the fuel filter. Perhaps someone with knowledge on the codes could pin point the problem you have.

the symptoms of crank and crank and crank and crank

except for in my case, it would show signs of intermittend firing, but not sustain, before crank and crank and crank again

eventually it would start

in my 530d's case, I was advised to consider looking at crank and cam shaft sensors

Crank sensor is way down in the bowels, and cam sensor is in plain sight, so by process of elimination and hope, I bought a cam sensor and havent had an issue since then (7 years plus)

I would first check the fuel lines to see if the diesel has any air bubbles in it, or if the diesel runs back after switching the car off (if you can force it to start).

Ditto on the low pressure fuel pump. It's not too expensive and at this age of the car it can be expected to start failing.

I would get in touch with Gert from OBD Worx (This man knows his shyt)
Also think crankshaft sensor as this was an issue with my E90.
Had a donar DDE fitted after battery messed this around. Had it coded to the car and all was good again.

Another good oke to speak to is Paulo from Superteck in Germiston. (082 492-4179 / 011 036 8967). Him and Gert are good buddies and between these two they will sort you out. It took these two heads to get my car fixed after 5 months. It also went to JSN and those chops cannot fix cars. (Thats just my opinion)

Guys, i am in Hermanus (Onrus River) and the car is 100km away at a very very small village called Elim. Diagnostics says "Rail-pressure monitoring on engine start" as well as "Pre-supply pressure monitoring". Have heard that some of the replacement parts have to be coded to the car. If i put in a new rail pressure sensor or inline fuel pump or camshaft or crankshaft sensor do they need to be coded to the car?

New owner informed me yesterday that he had a new low pressure diesel pump installed (the one under the passenger side) and car is now running fine. Thanks for all the suggestions! Appreciate it!
