Hey guys, have any of you noticed that your speed is now higher? (well almost)

I thought to myself while downloading a 5mb file...why is it going faster than usual?

Was upgraded to 2mb a few weeks back - very nice to have.

When 1mb first came out, and a I moved to it from 384kb, it was life changing, which I'm sure is what most of you are feeling now :)

Hi Max, my 384k line is now 1Mbps, confirmed it the other night on my capped account, then phoned Afrihost and had them upgrade my uncapped account for 1Mbps - download speeds peak at around 111Kbps or so.

On the router interface it should show you your up and down stream speeds - should therefore be 1024Kbps down and 512Kbps up...

So does one have to call your ISP to upgrade your account after the line has been upgraded?

If you're on a capped account, there is no need to contact your ISP. Capped accounts are only restricted by your Telkom line speed.

If, however, you are on an uncapped account, you may need to contact your ISP - that being said, most ISP's have already upgraded their uncapped packages from 384 - 1mb for free.

Router says:

Upstream: 512000
Downstream: 2048000

So it's upgraded:joy: (Still paying for 1Mbps)

Upgrades happen over a period of time. My 1M were bumped up to 2M, twice as nice.
DSLAM has a port limit of 4M, wish they would upgrade to 10M.
384 is really slow.

I actually reckon I will upgrade the line and uncapped to 2Mbps in the next month or so!

yeah 384 IS the 56k of the broadband realm

give it time :) like what Frikkieh said

Well, to be honest, not even that, I reckon lately the 384k line feels more like the way the 28k lines used to feel! :nonono:

:nonono: why we getting excited about 1m we are so old school, we should be running at least 10meg, my brothers tease me about their 50meg lines in UK.
what have they done with those fiber optic lines they put in ???? Im confused.

10M is available 40M being tested. If you were a 384 user, you would rave about the speed increase. Africa has its own challanges and cant compare speeds to Europe and US, yet.
Mostly the heavy torrent users cry :biglol:
