1998 BMW 528i Transmission Shifting Issue

Hi,

I own a 1997 BMW 528i 280000k km. The car seems to not shift past 3rd gear when put in D and rpm goes past 3k. What I do is manually drop it to S4 (under D) and shift back into D then it changes gears.

The ABS and DTC lights are off on the instrument panel. Do you think transmission is bad? I do not have a scanner to diagnose the properly and am low on the pocket.

I've been doing some reading as well and they come up with solutions to replacing the wheel speed sensor, replacing the transmission fluid on the gearbox....

If anyone could help at all I would be so grateful

Thank you, I will def do just that...


Just an update to the problem I had, it surfaced after I had done a tyre change when I had a blow out. Because of the tyre size imbalance, 17" and 16" the gearbox went all crazy and not changing as before. After new tyre replacement all round everything went back to normal......
