120d timing chain problems

A family member want to buy a 2005 120d with approx 160 000km on the clock. So being mr BMW he asked for my assistance and advice.
However, I am not familiar with this platform. Obviously I will always promote a BMW, but don't want him to buy a dut.

First concern is that the front tire wear is not even. I suggested that we take the car for wheel alignment (at our own cost of course). That should give us the opportunity to see if there are not any major issues suspension related and we know it's wheels will "be able to be aligned" :=): Will a dealer allow this form of inspection?

Second (a major) concern is what is posted on WikiPedia about the N47 engine:

The N47 engine family is prone to excessive timing chain wear and premature failure.[5] Rattling noise from rear of the engine is indicative of the condition. Timing chain failure may call for engine replacement or a costly repair. The issue applies to all applications and power variants, from 2007 to 2009 models.

I know about crank pulley failures - no big deal, as I am Mr DIY too

Any recommendations please :joy:
